SICHUAN

EARTHQUAKE
THE 2008 SICHUAN EARTHQUAKE, ALSO KNOWN AS THE
GREAT SICHUAN EARTHQUAKE OR WENCHUAN EARTHQUAKE,
OCCURRED AT 14:28:01 CHINA STANDARD TIME ON MAY 12,
2008. MEASURING AT 8.0 MPH, THE EARTHQUAKE'S
EPICENTER WAS LOCATED 80 KILOMETRES WEST-
NORTHWEST OF CHENGDU, THE PROVINCIAL CAPITAL, WITH
A FOCAL DEPTH OF 19 KM.

The local authorities said more than 76,000 residents had been evacuated and
more than 24,000 houses damaged.

Offical figures for the damages includes 69 thousand one hundred ninety seven
deaths with 68 thousand six hundred and thirty six in Asia one province three
hundred and seventy four thousand one hundred and seventy six injured, and
eighteen thousand two hundred and twenty-two missing, this was considered
the deadliest earthquake to hit china after the 1976 Tong Shan earthquake,as it
left 4.8 to 15 million people homeless

THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT IS

HUNDRED AND FOURTY-SIX POINT 5
BILLION DOLLERS TO REBUILD AREAS
RAVIGED BY THE GREAT QUAKE
