iBypass 2 Switch Content
This guide provides the initial steps to set up and configure the Net Optics iBypass 2
Switch. The iBypass switch comes with the following components:
4
iBypass 2 Switch Overview
RJ45 monitor ports (2), RJ45 network ports (2), 2 X 16 character display, reset button
and system LEDs

Step 1
Rack Mount iBypass 2 Switch
Install the iBypass 2 Switch into a standard 19-inch equipment rack. The switch is
designed to occupy one rack unit. Do the following to install the iBypass 2 Switch into
an equipment rack:
1. Carefully unpack the shipping contents and verify you have all of the
components. Refer to “iBypass 2 Switch Content” on page 4.
2. Attach the Rack Mount Panel to the rack using the supplied screws.
3. Slide the iBypass 2 Switch into an open slot on the Rack Mount Panel.
4. Tight fasten the iBypass 2 into the rack with the thumbscrews.
Switch Default Settings
The iBypass 2 Switch ships with the following default system settings:
6
Step 2
Connect Power
1. Connect the included power cord to one of the power connectors on the back
of the unit. Connect the other end to a power source.
2. For redundancy, connect a second power cord to the second connector.
Connect the other end to a different power source.
3. Verify that the power LEDs illuminate on the front panel. If one power supply is
connected, then the top LED illuminates. If two power supplies are connected,
then both LEDs illuminate. If neither LED illuminates, then there is no power.
4. You can ground the switch to the rack by connecting a ground wire with a ring
lug to any ground connection on the rear of the switch. Terminate the other end
of the ground wire to the rack ground bus bar.

Step 2
Initial Configuration
The iBypass 2 switch is initially configured with default values, including a default
management IP address of 10.60.4.180. However, you must change the management
address in order to access the iBypass switch remotely. Use a console connection and
a direct CLI connection to change the management IP address.
1. Assign an IP address within your local network using the set network IP
address command. For example:
Net Optics > set network IP address 10.0.0.1
Set Static network mode: Done - Changes will be applied
only after reboot!
2. Configure the network gateway address using the set network gateway
command. For example:
Net Optics > set network gateway 10.10.2.12
Set Static network mode: Done - Changes will be applied
only after reboot!
9
3. Configure a subnet mask for the network using the set network netmask
command. For example:
Net Optics > set network netmask 255.0.0.0
Set Static network mode: Done - Changes will be applied
only after reboot!
4. Reboot the iBypass switch to apply your changes. For example:
Net Optics > reboot host
10
Step 3
Connect the Management Port
Connect the management port to a network device (that is, switch or router) using the
supplied Ethernet cable. This connection enables you to log into the iBypass switch
remotely.
11
Step 4
Connect the Network Ports
Use the supplied Ethernet cable to connect the network ports to a network device
(such as a switch or router) in order to monitor network traffic.
1. Connect Network Port A to the network device with one of the supplied
Ethernet cables.
2. Connect Network Port B to the same network device with another supplied
Ethernet cable.
3. Verify that the ports are in-line between the devices and that the link LEDs
(located on each port) are flashing. This ensures that traffic is passing through
the iBypass 2 switch.
1. Connect monitor port 1 to a monitoring tool using one of the supplied Ethernet
cables.
2. Connect monitor port 2 to the same monitoring tool using one of the supplied
Ethernet cables.
3. Verify that the monitoring tool is receiving traffic from the iBypass switch.

Step 6
Access the Web UI
The browser-based Web UI provides access to the iBypass 2 switch to view status
and set configuration values. There are three default user accounts that are shipped
with the system: admin, operator and user. Each of these accounts initially has the
password, netoptics. It is up to the system administrators to change the passwords.
To maintain security, log into the system and change the passwords to those three
default accounts. The default accounts cannot be deleted.
14
4. Enter the default password (netoptics).
5. Click the Log In button.
