New Changeover Switches
for Genset Applications
The principal task for a changeover
switch is managing the different power
supplies while guaranteing the
continuity of performance. The switch
ensures the switching and isolation
between the primary network supply
and the alternate network supply or a
standby generator.
Mechanically
interlocked
Two switch disconnectors,
mechanically interlocked, make
a changeover switch. The
mechanical interlock prevents, in
all possible circumstances, a
parallel connection of the two supplies,
even in case of transient voltages.
The changeover switch range is from
16 A up to 1600 A.
The switches are equipped with three
stable positions (I-0-II) and the isola-
tions of the two power supplies are
guaranteed by the positive contact
opening function and the reliable posi-
tion indication. Their electrical
characteristics allow an on-load
switching between the two supplies.
Two operation options
Manual operation is the simplest,
using a handle fixed
onto the switch, to
the panel board or to
the door of the panel
board. This type of
operation needs
human intervention,
extending operation
time between
the two supplies modes.
Motorized operation is
the most implemented
operation. No human par-
ticipation is needed for
the intervention: the
operation time between
normal and alternate supply
is short.
Optimal functional safety
and reliability
These are imperative for a device on
which the operational continuity of an
electrical installation is dependant.
■ Keeps its position even in supply
failures.
■ Switch disconnector is equipped
with two stable positions and is
independent of external alimentation:
in operation no risk of an unexpected
opening of the switch due to loss of
alimentation - no alimentation is
necessary to keep the switch in
closed position.
■ Isolation of the circuits
is ensured by the positive
contact opening function
and the reliable position
indication.
