UNIT I: INTRODUCTION TO CAD SOFTWARE

Answer:
1. AutoCAD Application is work-flow charts and organizational diagrams, Proposals
and presentations, Graphs of all kinds, Drawings for electronic, chemical, civil,
mechanical, automotive and aerospace engineering application.
2. You can store commands that you frequently use in AutoCAD, by default, you can
access these commands by clicking the New, Open, Save, and Plot Commands in the
Quick Access Toolbar. Using the shortcut menus of all commands on the ribbon,
menu browser, and toolbars, add commands to the Quick Access Toolbar.

1. What is the importance of AutoCAD application in the civil engineering profession?

(10 pts.)
Answer:
AutoCAD is a computer-aided design program used to create 2D and 3D
models of various items and locations. Computer-aided drafting is widely
used in the engineering profession since it makes planning sites much easier
than hand drawings, can assist in the design of a side range of engineering
supplies and is regularly updated.

2. What are the different ribbon tabs and what are their function? (20 pts.)
Answer:
Contextual Ribbon Tabs
- Instead of a toolbar or dialog box, a contextual ribbon tabs appears
when you choose a specific type of object of initiate particular
commands. When you finish the command, the contextual tab
closes.
Workspaces and the ribbon
- A workspace is a set of ribbon tabs and panels, menus, toolbars,
and palettes that provide you with a custom, task-oriented
drawing environment for products that run on the windows
operating system. By changing the workspace, you can switch to a
new ribbon. Select the workspace you want to utilize by clicking
workspace switching in the status bar.

3. Identify the different functions of the mouse when using AutoCAD. (10 pts.)
Answer:
The command window
- The command windows display prompts, options, and messages. It
is normally docked at the bottom of the application window, but
can be undocked and moved as needed. You can enter commands
directly in the command window instead of using the ribbon,
toolbars, and menus. Many CAD professionals prefer this method.
Pan and Zoom
- You can quickly navigate to different views by using pan and zoom
functions.
 Pan a view is any direction by holding the wheel down and
then moving your mouse.
 Zoom in or out by rolling the mouse wheel.
Properties palette
- When many objects are selected, this tool displays the properties
of a single selected object or common properties shared by several
objects. It will the default properties that are automatically
assigned to new objects if no objects are selected.

4. Identify the different tools that can be seen in the status bar and what are their
function? (20 pts.)
Answer:
Grid
- Display a grid in the drawing area.
Orthomode
- Constrains cursor movement to the horizontal or vertical
directions.
Isometric Drafting
- Simulates an isometric drawing environment by aligning objects
along isometric axes, where the angle between each axis is 120°
Object Snap Tracking
- Tracks the cursor along vertical and horizontal alignment paths
from object snap points.
2D Object Snap
- Snaps the cursor to the nearest 2D reference point, as you move
the cursor.
Lineweight
- Displays lineweights in a drawing. Model space displays
lineweights using a proportional pixel width. Layouts display
lineweights using real-world units.
Selection Cycling
- Turns on selection cycling, a feature that assists you select an
object, when objects overlap one another.
Annotation Visibility
- Displays annotative objects using the annotation scale. When
turned off, annotative objects are displayed at the current scale.
Autoscale
- Automatically adds annotation scales to all annotative objects,
when the annotation scale changes.
Annotation Scale
- Sets the current annotation scale for annotative objects in model
space.
Workspace Switching
- Changes the current workspace to the one you select.
Viewport Scale
- Displays the scale of the selected viewport. This is visible only
when you select a viewport.
Clean Screen
- Maximizes the drawing area by clearing it of the ribbon, toolbars,
and dockable windows, except the command window.
Model Space
- Indicates that you are currently working in model space. In model
space, click this button to display the most recently accessed
layout. In a layout, click his button to switch from model space in a
layout viewport to paper space.
Isolate Objects
- Hide selected objects in the drawing area, or display objects that
were hidden previously.
Snap Mode
- Turns on snap-to-grid. When grid snaps are turned on, the cursor
snaps to specified grid intervals as you move the cursor. When
polar snaps are turned on, the cursor snaps to specified distances
along specified polar alignment paths.
Polar Tracking
- Tracks the cursor along specified polar angles.

5. Explain how to start using a new drawing in the AutoCAD application. (10 points).
Answer:

This is the Step to how start using new drawing in the AutoCAD application
1. At the command prompt, type "OPTIONS," and hit enter.
2. Select the Files tab in the Options dialog.
3. Scroll down to "Template Settings."
4. Expand the branch by clicking the plus (+) sign.
5. Expand the branch for "Default Template File Name for QNEW."
6. Use the Browse button to select your template drawing.
7. Once selected, select "APPLY" and "Close."
UNIT II: CAD DRAWING

Answer:
1. The word "Cartesian" comes from the philosopher Descartes, who came up with
the idea. He first described a fly's location floor by noting its distance from two
of the walls.
2.
- Absolute Coordinate System
- Relative Coordinate System
- Relative Polar Coordinate System
- Direct Distance Entry
3. Polar tracking restricts cursor movement to specified angles. Polar Snap
restricts cursor movement to specified increments along a polar angle.

1. Differentiate the different coordinate system that can be used in the AutoCAD
application.
Answer:
- Absolute Coordinate System - Absolute coordinate entry always counts
from the origin, and relative coordinate entries do not count towards any
particular coordinate system or coordinate system.
- Relative Coordinate System - The reference point is the previous point in
the drawing. For relative coordinates, AutoCAD does not count from 0,0.
- Relative Polar Coordinate System - Polar coordinates are named for their
"pole"; the reference point to start from, similar in concept to the origin. They
employ one radial distance and one angle. The angle signifies the direction,
and the distance is how far to go in that direction from the pole.
- Direct Distance Entry - Direct distance entry is one of those AutoCAD
features that is often overlooked. Direct distance entry enables you to draw
an object, such as a line, by pointing in a particular direction with the cursor
and entering a distance at the command line. It can be extremely useful and
an amazing time-saver.
2. Explain how you will use the Direct Entry Distance on AutoCAD. (10 pts.)
Answer:
With direct distance entry, you can quickly specify a point relative to the last
point you entered. At any prompt for a point location, you move the cursor
first to specify the direction, and then enter a numeric distance.

3. Explain how will you use polar tracking and polar snap. (20 pts.)
Answer:
Polar tracking You can use polar tracking with Intersection and Apparent
Intersection object snaps to find where a polar alignment path intersects
another object.
Polar Snap As you move your cursor, a tooltip indicates the nearest Polar
Snap increment. To restrict point entry to polar distances, both polar
tracking and Snap mode (set to Polar Snap) must be on.
