I. Answer the question based on their presentation at class.

1. How did the group 3 open and introduce themselves to their audiences at class?

First of all, they started greeting to all the student and Mrs. Dwi. Then, they introduce
theirselves one by one. Fadia introduced herself as a leader of the group, Kalimata introduced
himself as a vice leader, Nurhaliza introduced herself as a secretary, Aditya introduced
himself as a member 1, Andhika introduced himself as a member 2, Karin introduced herself
as a member 3, and Naila introduced herself as a member 4. They told the audience which
slide they will read, and then they started their presentation.

2. What are they talking about in their presentation ? When and where is the
presentation carried out ?

They are talking about “Explanation Text” the presentation was carried out on Wednesday,
February 16th 2022 and the presentation was carried out on Google Meet.

3. How many person are there in the group 1? Mention their name and their position
one by one and What is basic competency in the group 1 ? Mention them detail.

There are 7 person in the group. Their name are

BC 3.8 is Distinguishing social functions, text structures, and linguistic elements of several
oral and written explanation texts by giving and asking for information related to natural or
social phenomena covered in other subjects in class XI, according to the context of their use.

BC 4.8 is Capturing contextual meaning related to social functions, text structure, and
linguistic elements of spoken and written explanation texts, related to natural or social
phenomena covered in other subjects in class XI.

4. a. What do you know about explanation text ? Explain it detail and give the example
titles

of the text .

An explanation text is a non-fiction text that is used to describe how or why


things happen. It usually includes a sequence of events (explaining how) and provides
reasons for a process or phenomenon (why).

For example : Rain

The water cycle Earthquakes

b. How many types of explanation text? mention and explain it detail.

There are 2 types of explanation text. The first one is Sequential Explanation,
this text is about explanations that describe natural and non-natural phenomena, for
example life cycles. The second one is Cause and Effect Explanation, this text is link
cause and effect in explaining how and why an event occurred, for example volcanoes.

c. What is social function and generic structure of explaination text?

The social function of explanation text is used to describe how or why an certain
phenomenon happens. And the generic structure of explanation text are :

1. A title that identifies the topic to be explained

2. An opening statement that identifies the process to be explained

3. A clear order of paragraphs that describe how and why

4. A concluding paragraph that puts all the information together

5. Finally, a visual text (a labeled image)

d. What is linguistic features of explanation text ?

Linguistic Features

(1) Focuses on general group rather than specific

(2) Use of linking words like in general, rather, for instance

(3) Use of action verbs like breaks, erupts.

(4) Use of present tense like is, wake, are.

(5) Reference to people should not be given.

(6) Passive voice may be used.

(7) Use of technical terms and language relevant to the subjcet.

(8) Conjunctions should be used to make connections like and, but.

(9) Gives a detailed description to create a rich meaning.

e. What is passive voice and give 5 sentences examples of it ?

A passive voice construction is a grammatical voice construction that is found in many


languages. In a clause with passive voice, the grammatical subject expresses the theme
or patient of the main verb – that is, the person or thing that undergoes the action or
has its state changed.

Introduction Have you ever wondered how the
water cycle is processed?

Opening statement The water cycle describes how water Present tense

The water cycle is made up of three

Evaporation is when a liquid changes
to a gas. Liquid water is found in seas,

water and the water turn into gas. It
becomes water vapor. It goes up into Technical language

sequence 3 gases. It is called the atmosphere.

Condensation is when gas changes to


a liquid. This happens to water vapor

Conclusion water falls to Earth. Precipitation is
what falls. Rain and snow are
precipitation. This is how water
moves from the atmosphere to Earth.
Humidity is how much water vapor is
in the air. Places on the coast are very
humid. There is a lot of water vapor in
the atmosphere. Places far away from
water, like deserts, are different. They
are not humid.

The water cycle can change how the


land looks. Glaciers grow slowly.
They can push up mountains. Rivers
can wash away land. They can make
big canyons.

5. How does the group 3 close their presentation infront of their audience at class ?

First, the leader says their gratitude to Allah SWT because without God they cannot carried
out the presentation well. After that, they said their gratitude to our English Teacher, Mrs.
Dwi Mulyani for helping them making the presentation and gave them advices for their
presentation that helped them in making their presentation. Lastly, they said their gratitude to
11 Science 2 classmates for listening well to their presentation. And then, all the Group 3
members said Alhamdulillahirobbillallamin, All praise due to Allah Lord of The World. After
that, they closed the presentation.
