Adjusting the speed of boom movements on the TD

40150

How to adjust the setting of the balancing valve on the lift cylinder.

Check all pressure readings with the engine cold and an oil temperature of between 30° and
40°:
- Main pressure relief valve on control valve set to 225 bar.
- Auxiliary pressure relief valve on unloader set to 220 bar.
- Auxiliary pressure relief valve on digger set to 190 bar.

Inspect the overall system:

- Check the presence of a 1 mm diameter drilled nozzle on nipple 1.
- Check the presence of a 0.8 mm diameter drilled nozzle on nipple 2.
- Check the presence of a 0.8 mm diameter drilled nozzle on nipple 3.

nipple nipple.

Check the initial settings:

- Screw down the top valve A completely, without forcing, then back off by one and a
half turns.
- Screw down the central valve B completely, without forcing, then back off by half a
turn.
- Verify the boom lowering time with cold oil; this must be between 27 and 35
seconds. If necessary, adjust the central valve C. Do not back off by more than half a turn:
risk of cylinder falling when fully laden.

Make sure that the boom is lowered smoothly, first unladen and then fully laden (minimum
2000 kg):

- Lift the boom to the end of its stroke, start lowering using the control on the hand
controller. Stop the movement, start quickly, stop again, then start the movement again very
gradually. Repeat this operation several times.
- If boom movements are jerky, adjust the screw on valve C very gradually, at
intervals of 1/8 of a turn.

How to adjust the setting of the balancing valve on the lift cylinder
(contd.)
- If jerking persists or in case of difficulty in adjusting the valve, verify the tightness of
the check valve (ref. 57 in the hydraulic drawing), which is situated close to the 100 bar
pressure relief valve (ref. 55), in the hydraulic housing behind the cab.
- If the unladen machine is unbalanced due to over-excavation, check the settings of
the auxiliary pressure relief valves on the tilting element. The opening pressure of the relief
valve that protects the small chamber must be higher (220 bar) than that of the relief valve on
the large chamber (190 bar).

Bring the temperature of the hydraulic oil to at least 60° and repeat the checks described
above. If necessary, the settings can be refined, but only within minimum ranges.

How to adjust speed using the radio control system.

Fit the man platform to the machine and ballast with 100 kg.

Disconnect the man platform detection sensor on the flange.

Check that the engine speed is 1200 revs/min when a command is sent via radio, and adjust
if necessary. Adjust the relative valve on the aluminium valve block in the housing behind the
cab if necessary.

Raise the machine with the stabilisers fully extended and the frame placed horizontally.

With the superstructure to the front, extend the boom to the end of its stroke.

Open the receiver station and actuate the lift control. Note which LEDs light up on the control
panel and on the relative PWM.

Timing of analogue signals LD 1 corresponds to the axis governed

by means of the top 1 and bottom 1
potentiometers.

The radio receivers of machines with man platforms that

incorporate level correction have three PWMs:
one for lifting and lowering,
one for the telescopic function,
one for level correction, which acts on the
tilting movement.

One LED lights up when a command is sent for a movement

PWM in one direction and the other when a command is sent for a
movement in the opposite direction.
Use the potentiometer beneath the LED that lights up to
change the direction of the movement in question.
Do not use the central potentiometer, to avoid the risk of
exceeding the setting range.

How to adjust progressive movement settings

Use the radio transmitter to send a movement command.
Note which LED lights up on the PWM affected by the movement and operate on the
potentiometer next to that LED.
Adjust this until the movement is executed gradually, even when the control lever is actuated
suddenly.

How to adjust the speed of movement.

Operate the same movement using the radio transmitter.
Note the number of the red LED that lights up at the side of the analogue value timer display.
Use the corresponding potentiometer, on the bottom row, to change the final lowest speed
setting. The green LED on the PWM lights up.
Use the other corresponding potentiometer, on the top row, to change the final highest speed
setting. The yellow LED indicator on the PWM lights up.

N.B.: 1. Tighten the screw on the potentiometer to increase the speed of movement and
loosen to reduce it.
2. For more precise adjustments, the PWM may need re-adjusting after setting the
maximum speed.

Movement time settings.

Lifting and lowering (boom retracted, unladen and without palletiser): 60 s (-/+ 2 s).
Right and left rotation, unladen and without palletiser: 45 s (-/+ 2 s) for half turn.
Do not adjust permanent telescopic and auxiliary movements, which are linked to lifting
and rotation.
Platform correction
Reset the man platform detection sensor on the flange.
Open the CEC control box on the platform.
Disconnect the green-yellow
wire leading from the
clinometer.

Start the machine using the radio control device.

Gradually activate the lift command; the platform must tilt and the boom shouldn't lift or lower.
Use the third PWR to adjust the correction speed setting, in order to obtain 8 ÷ 10 seconds to
pass from a forward inclination of -5° to a backward inclination of +5°.
Reconnect the green-yellow wire in the CEC.
Start the engine and verify the correct execution of the lifting movement.

How to control platform correction.

From the cab, tilt the man platform forwards by more than 5°.
Re-actuate the man platform. The red indicator lamp on the transmitter flashes and the
buzzer sounds.
Send the lift command; the boom must not move: when the lift command is sent this
tends to bring the platform back to the horizontal position automatically.
Make sure that, when the levelling command is deactivated, the platform is at zero
degrees (reading on longitudinal clinometer on the platform). If that is not the case,
adjust the position of the clinometer on the platform support.
Send the lift command again; the boom must be lifted or lowered, depending on the
direction that has been selected and the green indicator lamp on the transmitter must be
on.

From the cab, tilt the man platform backwards by more than 5°.
Proceed as described above, but in the opposite direction.
Deactivate the platform levelling command when the man platform is horizontal, in both
directions being corrected.
If it is not possible to stop the platform in the horizontal position, the tilting speed setting
must be adjusted.

Warning! Remember that the machine is moving while settings are being adjusted

How to adjust the operating speed in emergency mode.

It is only possible to adjust the lowering speed setting.
This operation must be performed by two operators.
Place the superstructure longitudinally, with the retracted boom raised to 50 cm from its
lower stop and with the machine supported on the stabilisers.
Remove the lock nut and back off the top screw on the valve situated to the left, in the rear of
the machine, at the base of the boom support, behind the plastic guard.
One operator must actuate the lowering movement from the emergency unit on the man
platform, while the other gradually tightens the adjusting screw.
As soon as the movement becomes smooth and very slow, block the lock nut.
Activate the telescopic boom function, with the boom still 50 cm from its lower stop.
Start lowering from the emergency unit. If the boom is lowered too quickly, adjust the speed
by backing off the screw. If the boom is lowered much too slowly, tighten the screw at
intervals of 1/8 of a turn.

Lift the retracted boom to the maximum height and verify the speed over the entire stroke. If
the speed that has been set is too slow, movements may be jerky. Correct this condition by
adjusting the specific screw.
