1. Adverbs – Conceptual Map
INSTRUCTIONS: Investigate about adverbs in English, answer the questions and add the
requested information.
What is an adverb?
R= An adverb is a part of speech that complements a verb, an adjective, other adverbs, and
even sentences. Adverbs express circumstances, such as manner, place, time, quantity,
affirmation, doubt, etc
In what part of the sentences are placed the adverbs?
R= Adverbs of place, time, manner, and quantity are often added to a verb to provide more
information. In that case they function as complements of the verb. For example: Came fast.
A) Write a short concept and add some examples of the following types of adverbs
Adverbs of Manner:
An adverb of manner describes how to do an action. For example, they dress elegantly.
Some older people drive slowly.
Adverbs of Place:
Adverbs of place that express movement and situation at the same time. Certain adverbs of
place express movement and position in space at the same time
EXAMPLES:
John looked around, but he couldn't see the monkey.
I looked everywhere I could think of.
I'm going back to school.
Happens!
They built a house nearby.
She took the boy outside.
Adverbs of Time:
Adverbs of time that describe how long an action occurs generally work best at the end of
a sentence.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Goldilocks went to the Bears' house yesterday.
I'm going to tidy my room tomorrow.
I saw Sally today.
I will call you later.
I have to leave now.
I saw that movie last year.
Adverbs of Frequency:
They are used to indicate how often the action indicated by the verb is performed.
EXAMPLES:
The incubator turns each egg hourly.
We take a vacation at least once annually.
I usually shop for groceries on Saturday mornings.
He is often late for work.
We seldom see John.
My dentist told me I should floss twice daily.
B) Elaborate a Conceptual Map with the previews information about Adverbs and add the
