UNIT-I
1. a) Explain the inconsistency of Ampere’s circuit law and how it is modified for time varying 7 Marks
fields.
b) A copper wire carries a conduction current of 1 ampere at 60 Hz. What is the displacement 7 Marks
current in the wire? For copper assume Ɛ=Ɛ0, µ=µ0, 𝛔=5.8x107 Ʊ.

2. a) In a material for which σ = 10 S/m and εr = 3.0, the electric field intensity, E is given by 7 Marks

E= 350 Sin10 t V/m. Find the conduction and displacement current densities.?

b) Given ⃗⃗ in free space find ⃗⃗ ,⃗⃗ ,⃗⃗⃗ 7 Marks

UNIT-II
3. a) In free space, ⃗ (z, t) = 1.0 sin(ωt –βz ) ax V/m. Find the average power crossing a 7 Marks
circular disk of radius 15.5 m in a z = constant plane.
b) Derive the wave equations for conducting medium. 7 Marks

4. a) Define polarization of an electromagnetic wave. How an elliptically polarized wave can be 6 Marks
specified uniquely.
b) A 30 GHz radar signal may be represented as a uniform plane wave in a sufficiently small 8 Marks
region. Calculate the wavelength in cm and the attenuation in dB per foot if the wave is
propagating in a non -magnetic material for which εR=1 and σ = 0.
UNIT-III
5. a) Illustrate the reflection by a perfect conductor at oblique incidence. Formulate the expressions 10 Marks
for electric field for Perpendicular polarization.
b) If Ɛr1=4, Ɛr2=2, then determine the Brewster angle. 4 Marks

6. a) Differentiate Perpendicular and Parallel polarizations. Derive the expression for the reflection 10 Marks
coefficient for plane wave oblique incidence by a perfect insulator for the case of parallel
polarization.
b) When a plane wave is incident normally on the surface of a perfect dielectric,Ɛr1=4, 4 Marks
Ɛr2=2,µr1=2, µr2=2, find the ratio of electric field strength of reflected wave to electric field
strength of incident wave?

7. a) A certain transmission line operating at ω=106 rad/sec has α= 8 dB/m, β= 1 rad/m and Zo=
8 Marks
60+j40 Ω and is 2m long. If the line is connected to source of 10 V,Zs= 40 Ω and terminated
by a load of 20+j50 Ω, determine input impedance.
b) Derive the relations existing between secondary constants and primary constants of 6 Marks
transmission line.
8. a) At a frequency of 100 MHz, the following values are appropriate for a certain transmission 8 Marks
line L = 0.25 µ H/m ; C = 80 pF/m , R = 0.15 Ω/m and G = 8 Ʊ /m. Calculate values for :
(a) α (b) β (c) λ (d) v (e) Zo .
b) Compute the input impedances of a Short Circuit and an Open circuited line. 6 Marks

UNIT-V
9. a) Design a single stub match for a load of 150+j225 Ω for a 75 Ω line at 500 MHz using smith 8 Marks
chart.
b) Explain the need of impedance matching, list out various methods of impedance matching 6 Marks

10. a) Write the procedure of determining input impedance and load impedance of a transmission 8 Marks
line using Smith Chart.
b) Justify the need of Double stub matching? 6 Marks
