Consequences of failure to register for verification

1.0 Introduction

The Ministry of Home Affairs in Tanzania through the Registrar of Religious

Organizations and Civil Societies Organizations announced its ongoing plan to verify all
Religious Organizations and Civil Societies Organizations in Tanzania from 20th March,
2019 to 30th May, 2019.

Nonetheless, the first phase of verification process will be conducted in Dar es Salaam and
Coast Regions where the deadline shall apply to the only mentioned regions.

This directive was released by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs in
Tanzania and it was published on 13th May, 2019.

2.0 The process of verification of Religious Organizations and Civil Societies

Organizations

The process of verification shall be done at the former offices of the Ministry of Home
Affairs in Dar es Salaam region from 0800hrs to 1600hrs.

Religious Organizations and Civil Societies Organizations are required to submit the
following documents for verification:-

a. Original copy and photo copy of the Registration certificate;

b. Original receipt of the recent paid annual fee;
c. Original copy of the Constitution of the organization;
d. Introduction letter from the local government officer as a proof of existence of
offices of a Religious organization or Civil Society Organization in that particular
area; and

 e. A duly filled in verification form that is available at the verification station and on
the website of the Ministry of Home Affairs www.moha.go.tz

3.0 Consequences of failure to register for verification

All Religious Organizations and Civil Societies Organizations which have their registered
offices in Dar es Salaam and Coast Regions that will fail to submit required documents for
verification will be removed from the Register. This means, they will not be recognized as
registered Religious Organizations and/or Civil Societies Organizations in Tanzania.

Furthermore, Dar es Salaam’s based Religious Organizations and Civil Societies

Organizations which fails to register for verification at the relevant verification station will
be required to process verification at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Head Quarters in
Dodoma.

4.0 Conclusion

Verification of Religious Organizations and Civil Societies Organizations concerns both,

registered and unregistered organizations. Unregistered Religious Organizations and Civil
Societies Organizations are also required to report at the relevant verification station in
order to get information on the process of registration.

Also, during verification, office of the Registrar will receive payments of any pending fees.
Such payments will be done through Government Electronic Payment Gateway System.

The essence of this exercise is to make sure that Religious Organizations and Civil
Societies Organizations are in line with the law that regulates societies and in compliance
with other related laws.
