One powerful future.

Operation modes

• Mains parallel operation

• One or more genset(s) are running parallel with the utility according the given power
demand
• The genset(s) can power supply the loads at site and/or export power into the utility (no
measurement at the utility connection point)
• During utility failure the genset(s) will stop immediately without engine cooling

• Mains parallel operation with import / export control

• One or more genset(s) are running parallel with the utility according the given import /
export power demand
• The genset(s) can power supply the loads at site and/or export power into the utility
(measurement at the utility connection point)
• During utility failure the genset(s) can switch over to island mode if possible depending
on the import / export control setting

One powerful future.

Operation modes

• Island operation
• The auxiliaries have to be power supplied before starting the genset (except Blackstart)
• One genset is running and power supply customer loads at site
• The CG load steps has to be followed
• Transformers has to be charged during genset start
• If the genset stops no more power supply at site (except of emergency gensets)

• Island parallel operation

• The auxiliaries have to be power supplied before starting the genset (except Blackstart)
• Several gensets are running and power supply customer loads at site
• The CG load steps has to be followed
• Transformers has to be charged with only one genset
• Load sharing between the running gensets are necessary
• If one genset will be stopped the other gensets will take the load

Operation modes

Start in mains parallel operation

Genset start procedure

Start demand & power demand > 30% PN.
Pre-lubrication (e.g. 3 minutes)
Starter engages
Purge for 2,5 seconds
Ignition start
Gas solenoid valves open
Starter disengages at 280 rpm
Genset is running up with no load till1500 rpm
Release synchronization
»Speed Plus« or »Speed Minus« at the MFR
Synchronization unit closes the alternator breaker
TEM-Evo-System controls the power of the genset according power
demand (power governor active)

Load sharing CG gensets

• Mains parallel operation

• No load sharing and consider of the load steps necessary
• The gensets will export power into to utility independent from each other
• The utility will backup the gensets during starting and stopping of customer loads

• Island parallel operation (Load sharing necessary)

• The CG load steps has to be followed as well as the load sharing between the
gensets has to be done
• The gensets run @ rated speed and provide power to loads which are started
• The load sharing manage the load between all running gensets
• Recommendation: Load sharing should be done via PLC (PID governor) (P governor
not enough)
• Speed control can be done via contact (Plus / Minus) or analog signal (4-20mA)

(Blackstart)

Blackstart is approved for 1-2 times a year!

CG 260: no black start approval

Genset start procedure

No power supply of the HAS
Alternator breaker will be closed
Activation „island operation“ at TEM
Start demand & „Blackstart“ at TEM
No pre-lubrication

Blackstart

• No power supply for the auxiliary panels (400/480/600V)

• Pre-lubrication pump (Has to be power supplied for regular start)

• Other components which have to run before genset start has to be power supplied
external (for e.g. emergency diesel)

• Only 24VDC power necessary to power supply the TEM system and the multifunction
relay as well as the alternator breaker

• Pumps and other auxiliaries will start immediately after the genset is running

Changeover into island operation

Version 1:
Loaddrop during utility failure is
within the CG load steps
 Genset is running without
~0kW
interruption
Solution:
Utility import / export control
Load bank
K-Genset
Loaddrop (Disconnect load
<100ms)

steps (The engaging power of the
load is relevant)
Start load via VFD (Variable

Changeover into island operation

Version 2:
Load step during utility failure is
outside the CG load steps
(Disconnect load >100ms)
 Alternator breaker will be
opened
The auxiliaries will be power
supplied by the genset (ATS and
2nd feed in switchgear
necessary)
Customer load will be
disconnected
Afterwards the alternator Customer load
breaker will be closed again Switching on load according CG load
steps (The engaging power of the
load is relevant)
Start load via VFD (Variable
Frequency Drive)
Start load via softstarter
Multiple gensets
