- Exploration accomplished through literature, interview, group discussions or
combine some of them.
- Management or research questions can be revised
2. Sources of data
- Two categories of sources available: external & internal
- Three types of sources:
 Primary: original works, raw data
 Secondary: interpretations of primary data
 Tertiary: interpretations of secondary sources or finding aids such as
indexes, bibliographies, and Internet search engines.
- Five factors of evaluating source quality: purpose, scope, authority, audience,
and format.
3. Research question structure
 Management dilemma -> management question -> research question ->
investigative questions -> measurement questions.
4. Data-mining technology
 Pattern discovery
 The prediction of tends and behaviors
 Five-step process: sample, explore, modify, model, and assess.
