ECI Comes Out With Atlas On 2019 Polls, With A Host Of Data And
Themes
The Election Commission of India e-launched the 'Atlas on General Elections 2019'. The Atlas
encompasses all the data and statistical figures of this monumental event. It includes 42 thematic maps
and 90 tables depicting various facets of the elections. The e-Atlas is available at

Ebrahim Raisi wins Iran presidential race


Ebrahim Raisi, the incumbent Chief Justice of Iran, has won the country's presidential election by a
landslide, according to preliminary results released by the Interior Ministry.

Raisi, who has been the Chief Justice since 2019, has formerly held several other posts in the country
judicial branch following the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

India receives $64 billion FDI in 2020, 5th largest recipient of


inflows in world: UN
India received USD 64 billion in foreign direct investments (FDI) in 2020, the fifth largest recipient of
inflows in the world, according to a UN report.The report said in India, FDI increased 27 % to USD 64
billion in 2020 from USD 51 billion in 2019, pushed up by acquisitions in the information &
communication technology (ICT) industry, making the country the 5th largest.

The two-day Hemis Festival is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru
Padmasambhava also known as second Buddha.

The annual festival which is also known as Hemis Tses-Chu is celebrated on the 10th day of the fifth
month of Tibetan lunar calendar which is believed to be the birth anniversary of Guru
Padmasambhava.

Suri. Habba Khatoon, also known by the honorary title 'The Nightingale of Kashmir', was a Kashmiri
poet and ascetic. She was the wife of Yousuf Shah Chak, the last Emperor of Kashmir.

Max Verstappen wins 2021 French Grand Prix


Red Bull took their third consecutive win of the season at a cracking French Grand Prix courtesy of
Max Verstappen, who passed Lewis Hamilton with two laps to go to claim the thirteenth victory of his
career, Hamilton finishing second as the second Red Bull of Sergio Perez completed the podium.This
race is the seventh round of the 2021 FIA Formula One World Championship.

ICICI Bank Announces Collaboration With SWIFT to Offer Instant


Facility For Cross-Border Inward Remittances
India-based banking group ICICI Bank announced that it has teamed up with SWIFT to offer a facility
that helps overseas partner banks to send instant remittances on behalf of their customers to the
beneficiary in India.

ICICI claims this makes it the first bank in Asia-Pacific and second globally to offer the facility,called
SWIFT gpi with a real-time domestic payments.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce runs world’s fastest 100m since Florence

Two-time Olympic 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce clocked the world’s fastest women’s
100m in nearly 33 years and re-established herself as the favorite for a third gold in Tokyo.Fraser-
Pryce, the Jamaican who won the 2019 World title coming back from childbirth, clocked 10.63
seconds at a meet in Kingston.That’s the fourth-best time in history.

India organizing green hydrogen summit of BRICS nations


India is scheduled to host a two-day virtual summit on green hydrogen, with countries like Brazil,
Russia, China and South Africa set to take part in it. The countries will discuss their initiatives around
the emission-free fuel.

Hydrogen, when produced by electrolysis using renewable energy is known as Green Hydrogen which
has no carbon footprint.

In A First, Iran's Sole Nuclear Power Plant Undergoes Emergency


Shutdown
This is the first time Iran has reported an emergency shutdown of the plant in the southern port city of
Bushehr. It went online in 2011 with help from Russia. Iran is required to send spent fuel rods from the
reactor back to Russia as a nuclear nonproliferation measure.Unexplained closure of the Bushehr
reactor could cause power cuts.

Tamil Nadu CM opens ‘Minnagam’ to redress electricity issues 24x7


Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated a new electricity consumer care centre at the Tamil Nadu
Generation and Distribution Corporation headquarters to redress all the grievances, including
electricity connection, voltage fluctuation, power outage, damaged poles and cables.

The new electricity consumer care centre called Minnagam will function 24x7 with a total of 195 staff.

Indian Navy and European Naval Force hold first joint exercise
In a first, the Indian Navy is participating in a joint exercise with the European Union Naval Force
(EUNAVFOR). Stealth frigate INS Trikand, will participate in the two-day exercise in Gulf of Aden as
it is already deployed in the region on anti-piracy operations.

The other countries participating in the exercise are: Italy, Spain and France.

Google-built Firmina subsea cable runs from the US to Argentina


Firmina, an open subsea cable being built by Google that will run from the East Coast of the United
States to Las Toninas, Argentina, with additional landings in Praia Grande, Brazil, and Punta del Este,
Uruguay. Firmina will be the longest cable in the world capable of running entirely from a single
power source at one end of the cable if its other become unavailable.
