Inputs 1 to 6 - Unique Settings
Six individual sets of overcurrent and breaker failure functions are 50N/51N/67 Neutral Phase Overcurrent
available for each input current (ideal for redundant feeder protec-
tion). Functions include:
• 50LS Low Set Overcurrent
• 50BF Breaker Failure
• 50/51/67 Phase Overcurrent
• 50N/51N/67 Neutral Phase Overcurrent
• 46/50/51/67 Negative Sequence Overcurrent

50LS Low Set Overcurrent

Two definite time overcurrent ancillary functions are available for
each set of current inputs. Set these functions to pick up down to
0.1 A secondary in an AND/OR gate configuration and use for
special ProLogic applications.
50N/51N/67 Neutral Phase Overcurrent

Directional control is also available with this function.
Curve Type Curve types include IEEE, IEC and user-defined. See
curve list in Settings Range Summary section.

46/50/51/67 Negative Sequence Overcurrent

50BF Breaker Failure

Breaker failure is initiated by a B-PRO function trip or by an external

protection connected to the B-PRO external input. Outputs from set-
table timers T1 and T2 are provided for breaker failure conditions.

50/51/67 Phase Overcurrent

46/50/51/67 Negative Sequence Overcurrent

Device 46/50/51/67 is the same as 50N/51N/67 except that the input

current to this function is I2 instead of 3I0. Directional control is also
available with this function.
Curve Type Curve types include IEEE, IEC and user-defined. See
curve list in Settings Range Summary section.

50/51/67 Phase Overcurrent

Phase overcurrent protection (including instantaneous and inverse

time) is provided on all current inputs. This function has directional
control: forward direction (leaving the bus), reverse-direction
(towards the bus) or non-directional.
Curve Type Curve types include IEEE, IEC and user-defined. See
curve list in Settings Range Summary section.

50BF Breaker Failure and 50CT Overcurrent 27 Undervoltage

27 Undervoltage

This function checks the phase to neutral voltage to determine an

undervoltage condition.
The gate switch (switch between an AND and an OR gate) is used
to detect the undervoltage condition on all three phases or on any
single phase respectively.

50BF Breaker Failure and 50 CT Overcurrent

50MainBF and 50AuxBF provide breaker failure protection on the 32 Directional Power
main and auxiliary breakers respectively. Set pickup delay 1 and
pickup delay 2 differently to trip the second coil of the breaker or the
next level of breakers, e.g. bus breakers, respectively.
50Main-1, 50Main-2, 50Aux-1 and 50Aux-2 are definite time delay
overcurrent protection functions used to detect main and aux CT
overcurrents. Gate switch can be switched to either AND or OR
position to detect all 3 phases or any phase (of the 3 phases)
overcurrent conditions.
32 Directional Power

F-PRO provides directional real power and reactive power

25/27/59 Sync Check protection. Set the pickup setting to a positive value (trip on forward
power flow away from bus) or a negative value (trip on reverse
power flow into bus).

59/60 Overvoltage and Loss of Potential

25/27/59 Sync Check

This function checks the phase angle between the line and bus
voltages to determine whether a line breaker may be successfully
closed. Use single phase or three phase PT configuration. 59/60 Overvoltage and Loss of Potential

F-PRO provides overvoltage (59) protection for the line (main) PTs.
These functions are definite time delay functions. Two devices (59-1
and 59-2) are available.
The loss of potential function (60) from either one or two phases of a
PT issues an alarm.

2 F-PRO Relay Model 5100

79 Recloser THD Alarm

THD Alarm

This function checks and picks the highest total harmonic distortion
(THD) in any of the F-PRO six current inputs to make its decision.

79 Recloser
ProLogic
F-PRO includes two four shot reclosers with sync check supervision.
After four tries each recloser is locked out until the feeder returns to
normal by manual operation (i.e. The feeder has been on with a load
greater than the low set setting for a certain amount of time).
Main (79 Main) and Auxiliary (79 Aux) reclosers are identical except
the inputs are different.
Initiate or Block All enabled protection elements and inputs are
available for reclose block (79B) or reclose initiate (79I). See Output
Matrix for element assignment.

81O/81U Frequency

ProLogic - Recloser Control Example

F-PRO includes 15 control logic statements (i.e. ProLogic) with up to

5 inputs each, which are defined using simple logic commands.
Each ProLogic statement includes pickup and dropout delay. Gates
available are AND, NAND, OR, NOR, XOR, NXOR and LATCH.

81O/81U Frequency

Two under frequency and over frequency set points are provided.
Frequency is determined from the main voltage input (3 phase
voltage).

F-PRO Relay Model 5100 3

Output Matrix
F-PRO provides 12 assignable output relay contacts. These contacts
may be set up to trip a breaker or initiate an alarm. Each relay
function may also be set to initiate fault recording from the Output
Matrix screen.
The Output Matrix is also set up to provide recloser, block (79B) or
initiate (79I) from any of the protection functions. Only enabled
protection functions are available for selection.

50BF Breaker Failure 50N/51N/67 Neutral Phase Overcurrent

50BF Breaker Failure

50BF Main and 50BF Auxiliary provide breaker failure protection on

the main and auxiliary breakers respectively. Set pickup delay 1 and
pickup delay 2 differently to trip the second coil of the breaker or the
next level of breakers, e.g. bus breakers, respectively.

50LS Main/Auxiliary Ring Bus Overcurrent 50N/51N/67 Neutral Phase Overcurrent

The 50N/51N function is similar to the 50/51 functions except that

relays operate on 3I0 quantity. Directional control is also available
for this function.
Curve Type Curve types include IEEE, IEC and user-defined. See
curve list in Settings Range Summary section.

50LS Main/Auxiliary Ring Bus Overcurrent

46/50/51/67 Negative Sequence Overcurrent
L-PRO takes in currents from two ring bus CTs. These current inputs
are individually recorded and operate with overcurrent relay devices
50LS (low set) main and 50LS auxiliary. These individual overcurrent
devices are used mainly for ProLogic statements.

50/51/67 Phase Overcurrent

46/50/51/67 Negative Sequence Overcurrent

Further protection is provided for any unbalanced faults by using the

negative sequence overcurrent function. Curve definitions match
those for phase overcurrent except that this function uses negative
sequence current (I2) in place of phase current. Directional control is
also available.
Curve Type Curve types include IEEE, IEC and user-defined. See
curve list in Settings Range Summary section.

59 Main/Auxiliary Overvoltage 79 Reclosure
L-PRO includes a four shots recloser with sync check supervision.
After four tries the recloser is locked out until the transmission line
returns to normal by manual operation, i.e. the line has been on with
a load greater than the low set setting for a specific time.
Initiate or Block All enabled protection elements and external
inputs are available to be assigned for reclose block (79B) or
reclose initiate (79I) via the output matrix.

60 Loss of Potential Weak Infeed Scheme (WI)

Loss of potential occurs if there is a loss of one or more phase-neu- The weak infeed scheme used in conjunction with the permissive
tral voltages. This function uses Device 27 main logic: main phase to over-reach transfer trip (POTT) scheme trips the weak source end of
neutral voltage on each of the three phases with a fixed setting of the protected line. The weak infeed scheme uses a positive
0.75 per unit to detect loss of potential. Low set line current sequence undervoltage (27 V1) and/or a zero sequence overvoltage
detectors block the loss of potential output. No line breaker auxiliary (59 V0) condition, plus receipt of a remote end permissive trip signal
contacts are needed for this scheme. The loss of potential logic is to echo back a permissive trip or to initiate a local trip.

ProLogic 49 Transformer Overload Early Warning System

(TOEWS©)
This function provides up to 30 minutes warning of an impending hot
spot condition or excessive loss of life condition, allowing operators
to take remedial action by re-routing load.
The system uses the ambient temperature probe input (or top oil
probe, if available) to calculate the hot spot temperature at the
present time, and also into the future at one minute intervals: 30, 29,
28...2, 1 minute(s) into the future. If any of these future values
exceed a predefined limit, a warning alarm and time-to-trip are
generated.
