Every business at some point will need logistics and transport of its products, for this,

knowing how to choose the mode of transport is of vital importance in order to obtain

the greatest benefits of time, budget and good face and impression in front of

customers.

The article aims to show us the key points to choose the most optimal mode of

transport such as: the budget, the speed of transport (depending on the merchandise

being transported, such as perishable products, among others), the guidelines and care

if the Merchandise is classified as dangerous, the insurance and terms of agreements

between the buyer and the seller, the tracking of vehicles if necessary, the

responsibilities regarding the risks and damage of the merchandise.

On the other hand, knowing how to choose the modes of transport plays an important

role and depends on the size and urgency of the shipments, there are several modes of

transport which are:

• Road transport: it is one of the most flexible, convenient and cheap, but it can be

subject to long delays due to traffic congestion, as well as restrictions on weight, width

and height of the load.

• Rail transport: it is one of the fastest, it is not subject to delays or congestion, but it is

usually very inflexible and expensive, since it is only economical if shipments greater

than 300 tons and distances between more than 150 miles are sent.
3

• Air transport: it is the fastest way to transport products over long distances, but it is

not very ecological and it is expensive, since there are costs included in handling,

customs duties, fuel surcharges and VAT if products are being imported.

• Maritime transport: this form of transport is relatively cheap compared to air,

especially if you want to move large volumes, although it is slow and quite inflexible as

there are few ports.

There are several types of vessels which are:

Container ships, cargo ships, bulk carriers, tankers, loading and unloading ships.

They can be operated on a fixed basis with fixed hours or entirely in accordance with
