Rosenmund Reduction

Hydrogenation reduction of acid chloride to aldehyde using BaSO 4 – poisoned catalyst.

Important Points :
1. BaSO 4 is responsible for poisoning the surface of the catalyst preventing over reduction to
corresponding alcohol.
2. In hydrated conditions, Rosenmund Reduction gives rise to some side products.
