Peace Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.

The Second Sunday of Lent

Greetings of peace. We continue to pray for the Ukrainian people. On the weekend of March 19-20, we will take up a
second collection for aid to civilians caught up in the war there. Thank you for your generosity.

We begin a fascinating two-week period of time in the Church.

On Sunday, March 13, the Gospel is Luke’s account of the transfiguration of Jesus. This important event, which
anticipates the resurrection, is also described in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark. The Glory of Jesus, manifested in
the transfiguration, isn’t to be understood on its own, but only in the context of the death and resurrection of Jesus. In
terms of the Church calendar, on the Second Sunday of Lent, we look forward and contemplate Easter.

On Friday, March 25, we celebrate the appearance of the angel Gabriel to Mary, the Mother of God. Gabriel boldly
proclaims, “Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High…” In terms of the Church
calendar, exactly nine months before Christmas, the Church has us looking forward to the Nativity of Our Lord.

Both of these events, the Transfiguration and the Annunciation, have been favorite topics of artists throughout the
years.

May God continue to bless you during this Lenten season.
