It is my pleasure to present to you this first edition of the Training Manual We look forward to a continued upgrading of
on the Use of New Technologies for NHA Housing Projects. This manual building systems and materials, the necessary skills,
accompanies the hands-on trainings conducted and will be conducted by evaluation tools, and even our own acceptance to

No. 2016-120. The training and this manual are essential components towards
achieving the desired benefits of the technologies in housing through teaching Lastly, I would like to thank my HTDO Team for
of their proper installation and methodology of application. making this Training Manual possible.
We encourage users of these technologies to abide by existing
standards and requirements and to conform to prescribed conditions in
applying them, so that we can continue on the track of upgrading the housing
delivery for the public. We acknowledge the proponents for providing the
alternative solutions in this important government mission. While we usually
associate technology with high costs, it may surprise some of us that non-

In the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), there was a huge
demand for building materials and labor, due to the devastation on public and
Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines private infrastructure brought on by the typhoon. The NHA had to find ways to
(CIAP) address this concern in order to meet the housing demand. Concurrently, there
was also an influx of offers for new technologies, systems and materials to
AITECH. Most of the offers were wall systems & roofing materials. As an added
measure, the NHA through HTDO was directed to consult the Bureau of Design,
DPWH for reviews of the structural plans using the systems/materials.

One of the most valuable features of this technology is that its installation is 60%
faster than traditional construction methodologies; the single storey NHA Model for 22

PROPER STORAGE
Not following the care and storage instructions may lead to serious product
quality issues such as paint peel off, stains, blistering, corrosion, color changes, etc.
1. Indoor Storage
Storage should be indoors if possible, preferably in a clean, dry area away
from any source of chemical pollution. Since rapid changes in temperature may
cause condensation leading to quality issues, storage should be at an even
temperature. In particular, storage of products on site will be improved by a few
simple precautions:
1). Always stack the Products on metal or wooden skids in tilted position
3). Store away from chemically aggressive substances (e.g. salt, cement,
to keep them from direct contact with the ground, or drainage of water
fertilizer), away from material that could contaminate the surface (e.g.
or moisture and to prevent sagging.
diesel oil, paint, grease) and away from site traffic.
114 115
4) Where possible, do not leave uncovered products stacks lying in the
open. Store them under cover and away from open doorways.
3) Store out of direct sunlight if possible.
2. Outdoor Storage 4) Store away from chemically aggressive substances (e.g. salt, cement,

to keep them from direct contact with the ground, or drainage of water
or moisture and to prevent sagging. 5) The period of outdoor storage should be kept as short as possible.
Particularly during the rainy season because sheets in stack get wet due to
condensation and that the condense water cannot evaporate easily.

PAINT DELAMINATION
3. When products get wet
Regularly inspect the products during storage preferably at least once a week. If • Soft and pliable paint surface
there is presence of water in the product, please perform the following: • Bubbles underneath the paint surface is present
1) Wipe off the water with clean cloth and allow air circulation to • Paint peeling

2) Check presence of water in between sheets, if water is present separate
the wet sheets and place in tilted position so that water will flow until

Widely used on different types of residential and other kinds of buildings. These
are commonly used on mass housing, socialized housing, high end housing,
townhouses and privately owned residences. Also, it is widely used on
commercial buildings, mall buildings, condominiums, walk up buildings, medium

private schools, municipal buildings, hospital, churches and other institutional

General Notes
1. Shoring: C-Joist must rest firmly before pouring of concrete slab. Shoring
members must be capable of supporting the dead-weight of C-Joist and
concrete slab. For C-Joist more than five meter (5.0m) span, quarter spacing
of shoring is required. For C-Joist above 3.0 m to 5.0 m span, only midspan
shoring is required. While C-Joist below 3.0 m span, there will be no shoring. C-JOIST with 75 mm thk
CONCRETE SLAB @
2. Removable Steel Forms & Steel Stiffeners can be removed 3 days after the 900 mm SPACING
pouring of concrete slab. However, shoring of C-Joist must remain in place
for not less than seven (7) days.
3. Slab: Concrete slab shall have a minimum fc’ at 28 days = 20.68 Mpa (3000)
psi
Safety
Removable steel forms are temporarily forms to support the concrete during
pouring for safety, it is recommended to walk on C-Joist.

were addressed here, as the contractor of NGC performed the installation at
SRC and Steeltech representatives’ careful attention and guidance. Then the
groups proceed to the Camarin site, where Next Century’s M2 Panels and
Concrete Ventures’ C-Joist are already installed. The actual demo allowed for a
better understanding of the technologies as installed on site. Because the
contractor has already finished installing the C-Joist and concrete pouring,
Concrete Ventures brought a mock-up for the participants to view as the
technical providers explained the technology.

DECEMBER 16, 2015 AND JANUARY 08, 2016; NHA MAIN COMPOUND, ELLIPTICAL RD.,
DILIMAN, QUEZON CITY One of the most valuable features of this technology is that its installation
is 60% faster than traditional construction methodologies; the single storey NHA
Model for 22 and 26 square meter area can be installed within 6 days. Its smooth
surface allows it to be painted without additional preparation work before
painting.
On December 16, 2015, the National Housing Authority facilitated its
fourth Hands-On Training for the new technology, Eco-Key System.
Spearheaded by the Housing Technology Development Office, and in
partnership with Paligid Development Corporation, thirty-five of NHA’s technical
staff participated in the lecture presentation and the ensuing actual
demonstration that showed its unique construction methodology. A model
house had been constructed in the Main Compound adopting the NHA 26 sq.
