Argue why the world’s rainforests must be prevented

Maintaining rainforests are the responsibility of humanity to balance and conserve the

ecosystem. Rainforests are the tall and old trees growing in the area high rainfall. It plays an

important role in human life and most species in the world. However, rainforests have been

seriously destroyed in recent decades due to the commercial interests that the rainforest produce.

This essay will concentrate on the value of rainforest, the reasons and the consequences of

deforestation. Some solutions will be suggested for these circumstances.

There are a number benefits for preserving rainforests. First of all, rainforests have a significant

and essential role for all species, especially humanity. Animals including humans absorb oxygen

and exhale carbon dioxide while trees use carbon dioxide in the photosynthesis process and

release oxygen to animals. This creates the exchanged gases which really necessary to survive

both humans and trees. According to U.S Department of Agriculture “One acre of trees absorb

six tons of carbon dioxin and put out four tons of oxygen. This is enough to meet the annual

needs of 18 people”. Clearly, rainforests have contributed to produce a large amount of oxygen

and clean a huge amount carbon dioxide the world. Secondly, rainforests are also the habitat of

seventy percent of the world’s plant and animals. It is including endangered species and exotic

animals. In addition, rainforest provide the place for creatures to live and hide from the attack of

other species that would help to preserve group animals whose numbers are decreasing such as

Leatherback Turtle, Blue Whale, Ivory-Billed Woodpecker and Beetles etc. Thirdly, rainforest

are a potential source of pharmaceutical products. The investigations of scientists were

demonstrated that hundreds of rainforest plants are used for modern medicines and many of them

have not been discovered yet. Analyst is showed 25% of almost medicines are soured from plants

growing in the rainforest (@ 2016 Young people’s trust for the environment, Why are rainforests

important?). Only 1% of the plant species have been researched successfully (@ 2016 Young

people’s trust for the environment, Why are rainforests important?). Thus, rainforest plants serve

as vital resource for the studies medicine to find out cure which could be treatment many

diseases effects seriously on health such as cancer. The other value of rainforests helps stabilize

the world’s climate. By absorbing carbon dioxin, rainforests have reduced the amount of CO2 in

the air which is the cause of global warming. It regulates climate by creating moist environment

to recycling rainfall which supports balance humidity (E. Why preserve the tropical rainforests of

the world, 2016). Moreover, rainforests consist a variety of food. Many foods are originally came

from rainforests and now grown all around the world. For instance, bananas, pineapples,

oranges, lemons, coconuts, cashew nuts, peanuts, corn, rice, avocados, onions, tomatoes,

eggplants, peppers, ginger, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and cocoa. All of that foods are using daily

in human life. For indigenous people some of them could be the main diet. Finally, rainforests

are home of many tribal people.Approximate 1000 indigenous tribes can be found living in the

rainforestof the world (@ 2016 Young people’s trust for the environment, Why are rainforests

important?).These tribal still depend on forest to hunting and gathering to survive. Therefore,

rainforests are the places that support the subsistence of indigenous people.

However, rainforests are being destroyed without controlling. There are several reason which is

common for deforestation. Consider all factors that effect on rainforest, human activities are the

main cause of deforestation. Rainforests contain the amount of timber which is really value in

produce furniture or logging for building. Because of standard living of humanity has developed,

the demand construction of house, town, city, urban are parallel increased. Hence, the issues

cutting own tree illegally cannot avoid.According to statistics, it is about 90% of logging illegal

in Indonesia and 60-80% of logging illegal in Brazilian Amazon (Illegal logging,

2008).Simultaneously, to expand land for cattle ranches farmers usually use slash and burn

technique to clear tree. By that procedure destroyed the rainforest quickly (Bradford, Live

Science Contributor, 2015) and it is hard to return to original state. Mining are also one of reason

of deforestation. Many minerals and metals exist in rainforest (Butler, 2015). It consists

diamond, gold, copper, iron and aluminum and to exploit them factories need to remove tree by

uproot. Consequently, rainforest cannot restore and reproduce the other trees anymore. This is

leading to the decease of rainforests seriously.

As a result, deforestation has many effect on environment as well as almost creatures in the

world. Initially, the loss of tree is a reason for climate change. When the trees are cleared, carbon

dioxide is going to disturb and accumulate into the atmosphere. Thus, the temperature’s Earth

will increase constantly leading to climate change, melting ice, rising sea or thatis the important

cause of global warming. This carbon dioxide acts as a blanket trapping the sun’s heat and

warming the globe (What is Global Warming?, n/d).Next, it undermines the biodiversity.

Because of many species including endangered species will be extinction due to lose habitat. In

addition, there are some special kind of trees and rare plants, which can disappear forever.

Another worrying issue is growth of environment pollution which effects to the quality life for

humanity. The more trees are cut down mean the more carbon dioxide emission into

environment. This is the factor of pollution in the world.

Owing to the consequences of deforestation, some solution have been applied to alleviate the

problem of deforestation. Reforestation is the first strategies that the most effective to prevent

rainforests. Planting seeds and young tree in the areas which trees are destroyed or lacked can

help to increase the number of trees in rainforests. By that technique, when the trees growth it

can create place for creatures, maintain the biological diversity and protect

environment.Furthermore, the government should care more about how to use reasonable

rainforests. It is included creating some strictly laws which is prohibit to cut special kind of trees

or rare plants. With companies and factories, recycle products should be concentrated in use.

This would help to reduce the demand of logging and save natural resources. Education to

improve awareness of citizens about the essential role of reforestation is also one of the

procedure to prevent deforestation.

In conclusion, rainforests have many values in human life, animals, plants and environment.

Therefore, conserving rainforests as the action contribute to preserve standard living of all

species in the Earth. In contrast, the consequences of deforestation are the main reason leading to

several imbalances ecologically and environmentally. Nevertheless, there are some solutions

have been suggested to reduce this controversial issue.
