Design Note

1. The superstructure for the obligatory spans of this bridge comprises of 1x 51.50m and 2x35.00m span
(c/c of Expansion joint) with single cell PSC Box girder. The effective span of a three units of box girder is
49.05m & 32.8m. The width of the superstructure is 12.0m, with carriageway of 7.50m with 0.5m crash
barrier& 0.75m footpath on both sides. The depth of girder is 2.50m. Concrete grade adopted for box girder
is M45.

2 It is proposed to cast the web & soffit of the box first then the deck slab subsequently.

3. The prestressing will be done with 22 cables of 19 K 13. In 6 cables, 19 strands will be stressed in each
cable curtailed at 0.2L. In the other 12 cables 19 strands will be stressed. In the other 2 cables only 10
strands will be stressed. The remaining strands will be kept as emergency strands. Low relaxation High
Tension Steel strands, class II (HTS) of 12.7mm dia having an Ultimate Tensile Strength of 183.7kN
(conforming to IS: 14268) shall be used. Bright metal sheathing of 85mm dia shall be used for ducts.

The Prestressing will be done in single stage. KILLICK prestressing system has been followed in the
design.

4. Longitudinal analysis of PSC curved box girder is carried out using STAAD PRO for 2 lane width. Since
it is curved Two lane of Class A wheeled load or 70 R wheeled (or) 70 R tracked loads and Corresponding
moments ( Since it is curved) are considered in the analysis.

5. The transverse analysis of box girder is same for both 35.0m and 51.5m

6. The losses due to the following have been considered in this design.

1. Friction and wobble effect

2. Anchorage slip

3. Elastic shortening of concrete

4. Creep of steel

5. Relaxation of prestressing steel

6. Shrinkage of concrete

7. The stresses are checked for 20% higher time dependent losses as per IRC: 18-2000, Cl.7.2.4

8. For service condition the stresses due to temperature,Torsional warping and Distorsional warping
including DL,LL,SIDL have been ckecked.
