BUT
Use ‘but’ to join words, phrases and sentences that have ‘‘opposite/ different’ ideas.
Examples.
1. I felt angry but kept quiet.
2. We had no choice but to leave.
OR
Use ‘or’ to join words, phrases and sentences when we talk about a choice.
Examples.
1. I have never met my uncle or my aunt.
2. Do you want pancakes or waffles?

BECAUSE and FOR
Use ‘because’ and ‘for’ to talk about reasons.
Examples.
1. She has called me because she wants my advice.
2. The children went inside for it started raining.
SO and THEREFORE
Use ‘so’ to talk about entire thought.
Use ‘Therefore’ to talk about results.
Examples.
1. I have been studying hard so I think I will pass.
2. Henry cheated in the exam therefore he must be punished.
YET
Use ‘yet’ to talk about something unexpected.
Examples.
1. I dropped the glass bowl yet it did not break.
2. It’s small car yet it’s surprisingly spacious.
