NETC (ISSUER) FAQ

What is FASTag?

FASTag is a device that employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for
making toll payments directly from the prepaid account linked to it. It is affixed on the
windscreen of your vehicle and enables you to drive through toll plazas, without stopping
for cash transactions. The tag can be purchased from Tag issuers and if it is linked to the
prepaid account, then you need to recharge/ top up the tag as per your requirement.

What are the benefits of using FASTag?

 Cashless payment – FASTag users don’t need to carry cash for toll transactions,
and don’t need to worry about keeping the exact change

 Faster transit–Auto-debit of exact amount through the FASTag enables faster


transit through the toll plazas and saves time

 Online recharge– FASTag can be recharged online through Credit Card / Debit Card
/ Net banking

 SMS alerts– Instant SMS alerts on registered mobile number for toll transactions,
low balance, etc.

Which are the roads where the tag can be used?

FASTag is presently operational at 450+ toll plazas across National Highways. The system is
inter-operable and the same FASTag can be used across all toll plazas under the National
Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program. More toll plazas will be brought under the NETC

Is there any discount / cashback on toll payments using FASTag?

You can avail a cashback of 5.0% on all Toll payments using FASTag in FY 2018-19. For FY
2019-2020, the cash back amount is 2.5% of the toll transaction amount. The cash back
amount will be credited back in the tag linked account on monthly basis.

 Cashback will be paid to eligible Customers only .


 Cashback is applicable only on the transactions done on National Highways Toll
Plaza.
 The intention of this scheme is to drive digital payments in India. Any
misuse/manipulation intended or unintended will make the customer ineligible for
the Cashback.
 Decision of NHAI is final and binding on all scheme related issue.
 NHAI reserves the right to change/edit modify the scheme mechanics without any
prior notifications

What are the documents needed to apply for FASTag?

You need to carry original as well as copy of your KYC document. Following documents are
required for applying for a FASTag.

1. Registration Certificate (RC) of the vehicle.


2. Passport size photograph of the vehicle owner
3. KYC documents as per the category of the vehicle owner

ID Proof and Address Proof from the list mentioned & 1 passport size photograph

1. Sole – Prop:
a. Entity proof – Shop Establishment Certificate / GSTN Certificate /
Electricity Bill/any other proof acceptable to bank
b. ISA (Identity, Signature & Address) of Proprietor – Aadhaar(not mandatory)
& Pan Card

All required documents for FASTag should be in the name of the owner of the vehicle. If
vehicle owner is not present at the time of application, driver will need to submit his
photo ID proof along with KYC documents of the owner. A valid driving license would be
sufficient for ID proof.

What are the charges for FASTag?

FASTag has a onetime Fee of ₹100/- inclusive of all taxes.

I have two vehicles; can I use one FASTag for two vehicles?

No, you need to take two separate FASTags for the two vehicles.

I have new vehicle fitted with RFID Tag. How to get it activated?

RFID tags fitted by vehicle manufacturer cannot be used as replacement of FASTag. Only
FASTags issued by Issuing bank can be used for purpose of electronic toll payment.

FASTags is affixed on the windshield by the vehicle manufacturer/dealer which is used for
the toll payment.

Do I need to use any specific lane at the toll plaza for FASTag?

Yes, you will have to use the lanes demarcated for FASTag users. Only the marked lanes
have the required RFID infrastructure installed to read your FASTag. In case you enter a
cash-only lane, the FASTag will not be read and cash will need to be paid.

How would I know that the correct user fee has been deducted from my FASTag
account?

You will receive an SMS alert in your registered phone number each time a balance is
deducted from your FASTag account.

How would I report an incorrect deduction and how will I get back the same?

You can report an incorrect deduction by our Customer Care Helpline number written on
the FASTag. We will review your request and if found correct, will reverse the incorrect
deduction.

I have FASTag and also balance amount, but I could not go through ETC lane. How do I
get my FASTag checked/ rectified to see whether it is active or not?

You can raise a request regarding the same by calling the Bank’s customer care.

Can I avail a monthly pass?

Monthly pass for a toll plaza will be issued at that particular toll plaza. If you are
registered tag holder, you need to visit the toll plaza near your location and request for
the particular pass scheme. You need to pay for the selected pass scheme by cash or card
to the operator. Once the payment is approved, the operator will activate the affixed tag
for the pass scheme.

Customer can also convert their existing Union Bank of India FASTAG into a monthly pass
by visiting NHAI.org website and clicking on the FASTag Monthly Pass tab

Note: There is no need to purchase any other RFID tag to avail a monthly pass scheme at
any toll plaza. The FASTag already purchased by you will be configured for the pass at the
toll plaza.

How can I recharge my tag account?

You may recharge your FASTag account by making payment through Credit Card/ Debit
Card or Internet Banking.

Payment Mode: Pay by Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Internet Banking


Login to the portal, click on reload > Enter the reload amount > Submit > Select Payment
mode as Pay by Credit Card/Debit Card/Net Banking > Click on Make payment > Click on
the cards or Internet Banking as per requirement.
1. For Credit Card/ Debit Card transactions: Enter 16-digit card number, expiry date,
CVV > Authenticate with OTP
2. For Internet Banking options: Enter respective bank’s User ID, Password > Authenticate
with OTP > Follow the steps

How do I reset my FASTAG Password?

Open your FASTAG URL, and click on forgot password option. You will receive an OTP on
your registered mobile number and reset your new password.

Are there any other charges applicable like convenience fees etc.?

There may be additional charges associated with recharging the FASTag account through
different channels.

Please note:

1. GST will be levied on all the prescribed fees & charges at the applicable rates.
2. Convenience fee will be applicable for online recharge.
3. Threshold amount is the minimum recharge amount to be done at the time of tag
activation.

4. The above mentioned tag deposit rates would be applicable as per your vehicle
class and will be refunded to you at the time of FASTag account closure.

What do I have to do if I have lost/ damaged my RFID Tag? What will happen to the
account balance?

You can call our customer care for replacement of the tag. The new tag issued to you will
be linked to your old tag account and relevant balance amount will be transferred in the
new tag.

How do I block my FASTag account, in case my vehicle is lost?

You can call our customer care and block your FASTag account.

Can FASTag be used for passage through toll plazas on the state highways?

FASTag is presently operational at 450+ toll plazas across National Highways. The system is
inter-operable and the same FASTag can be used across all toll plazas under the NETC

I reside within 10 km of a particular toll plaza. Do I need to take FASTag to get the
concessions available for local vehicles?

You can purchase a FASTag to avail the concessions. Once you purchase the FASTag, you
will need to submit the required documents (proof of residence) at the Acquiring Bank POS
location to validate your residence within 10km of a particular plaza. Once it is verified,
you may avail the concession on the FASTag assigned to your vehicle.

What should I do if I have been debited multiple times for my toll transaction?

In case you have been debited multiple times for a toll transaction, please call our
customer care and log a chargeback complaint against the said transaction. Our customer
care will log the complaint. Please note that the TAT for such chargeback cases is 14
working days. You can check the status of your complaint by calling our customer care
during this period
