Disadvantages
- Anything has its advantages and disadvantages, so it's the same in e-
commerce. And these are the most common disadvantages in e-commerce .

● Lack of Personal Touch: Customers lack the facility of touching and


feeling products in case of online shopping. They are sometimes more
satisfied by purchasing at physical outlets by properly checking the
product before buying.
● No Guarantee about Product Quality: Customers cannot get ensured
regarding the quality of products available online.
● Security Issues: Customers may lose their essential credentials while
shopping online. There are various hackers over the internet which may
steal customer’s data and may cause great loss to them.
● Long Delivery Period: Another major disadvantage of online shopping
is that customers need to wait for longer time periods for getting their
products delivered
● Cannot try before Buying: Customers cannot take a trial of products
before purchasing when they are doing online shopping.
● Some products are difficult to buy online:If you think that you can buy
everything online then it is your misconception. There are products for
instance eatables like ice cream, spectacles, and metals like gold and
silver that you do not want to buy online even if you have the option of
doing so.
● Lack of privacy:Lack of privacy is a serious disadvantage of e-
commerce. A customer has to provide his personal details before making
a purchase like address, name, and phone number and so on.
● Tax issues:E-commerce portals are accessible in most part of the world
as it is not limited to a particular geographical location. When a customer
makes a purchase he has to pay the tax on it and it becomes difficult to
calculate the actual sales tax levied in that place.

-Today ,applications of e commerce is very popular in business .There are
motivating lot of businesses to use E-Commerce for their business. Various
business areas such as retail, wholesale and manufacturing are using E-
Commerce.
● Retail and wholesale:E-commerce has a number of applications in retail
and wholesale.E-retailing or on-line retailing is the selling of goods from
Business-to-Consumer through electronic stores that are designed using
the electronic catalog and shopping cart model.
● Marketing: Data collection about customer behavior, preferences, needs
and buying patterns is possible through Web and E-commerce. This helps
marketing activities such as price fixation, negotiation, product feature
enhancement and relationship with the customer.
● Finance:Customers can check the balances of their savings and loan
accounts, transfer money to their other account and pay their bill through
on-line banking or E-banking.
● Manufacturing:E-commerce is also used in the supply chain operations
of a company.Some companies form an electronic exchange by providing
together buy and sell goods, trade market information and run back office
information such as inventory control.
● Auctions:Customer-to-Customer E-commerce is direct selling of goods
and services among customers.It also includes electronic auctions that
involve bidding. Bidding is a special type of auction that allows
prospective buyers to bid for an item.
