during peak hours.

No of passengers 0 1 2 3 4
No of taxis 6 10 x 12 7

(a) Write down an inequality that must be satisfied by x if the mode is 2 .

(b) Find the possible value of x if the median is 2.5 .
(c) If x  11, find the mean number of passengers in a taxi.

6 In a fish farm, there were two groups of 100 fishes each. One group was fed with
fish food A and the other with fish food B . The diagram below shows, on the
same axes, the cumulative frequency curve for the lengths of the fishes.

(a) For the fishes which were fed with fish food A , find
(i) the median length;
(ii) the interquartile range;
(iii) the fraction of fishes, in its lowest term, of length greater than 15 cm
but less than or equal to 20.5 cm.
(b) Compare, briefly, the length of the two groups of fishes.

circles touch at point R. The line TC is a common tangent to the circles at A and B
respectively and PRQ is a straight line. It is known that PA  3 cm, QB  2 cm and
APQ  θ radians.

(a) A student from the class is selected at random.

Find, as a fraction in its lowest terms, the probability that the student is
(i) a right-handed male,
(ii) a female.

(b) Two students are selected at random from the class.

Find, as a fraction in its lowest terms, the probability that
(i) neither of them is a right-handed female,
(ii) one is a right-handed and one is a left-handed.

10 (a) Calculate the number of different ways in which the letters of the word
HOLIDAY can be arranged such that

(i) the first letter is I and the last letter is Y,

(ii) the first letter is I or the last letter is Y but not both.

(b) A school has 6 vacancies for an overseas trip. The students who applied
consist of 7 girls and 8 boys. Calculate the number of ways in which the 6
vacancies could be filed if at least 4 girls are to be selected.

11 The diagram below shows two circles with centres P and Q. The circles intersect
at points A and B. CE and DE are tangents to the circles with centres P and Q at
C and D respectively. The line BE cuts the circle with centre Q at F and the line
DF produced meets CE at G. CAD is a straight line.
