ROBOCOM ’19

INTRODUCTION:
Mechatronics Club on behalf of UET Lahore welcomes you all to participate in ROBOCOM ’19 to be
held under the banner of TechWeek which will be held on 25-02-2019. This competition will provide
an opportunity to its participants to showcase their skills in Robotics. Our goal is to provide a platform
to young and enthusiastic members of robotics community. We believe that in this modern era the
future of all industries lies in fully automated robots and machines and events of this type will help
students to improve their technical skills in robotics and provide students with a competitive
environment which will bring out the best in them.
Robots used to move objects in most industries such as Amazon and Alibaba are not only able to follow
specified paths in a closed environment but are able to navigate while following directions given to
them. In this regard, our theme is designed to make sure that the participants are able to build robots
that have all the above characteristics.
There are three categories of this competition: Line Navigation Robot category, and Maze Solver
Robot Category, and Robotics Workshop. The first category is designed to test how well the robot
follow the specified path and follow instructions while the second category tests the robot’s ability to
find the way out of a maze autonomously. The last category teaches its participants on how to design
a robotic hand and program it for useful use.

EVENT DETAILS
1. LINE NAVIGATION ROBOTICS COMPETITION:
Event Info:
Date: 25th February 2019
Time: 1 pm-onwards
Place: Main Auditorium
Team: 3-4 members per team
Reg Fee: 1000 PKR
Description:
The challenge of the Line Navigation Robotic competition is to make a robot that can follow a black
line on white background, without losing the line and avoid the obstacle in its course.
This competition includes conventional line following robot upgraded with obstacles and receiving
information in terms of colour of obstacle and deducing what that colour may indicate. The robot
decides its path considering both the line as well as the colour of obstacle.

CONTEST ROUNDS:
The competition is divided into 2 rounds. Round 1 comprises of 50 points while Round 2 has maximum
of 100 points. So, the total points for the competition are 150. Team which has most points will be
declared as the winner.
ROUND 1:
Round 1 is about how quickly robot reaches its destination while following a black line on white
surface. This round will test the ability of robot to follow the given track. Arena for this round is given
in Figure-1. Additional Rules for the Round 1 are given below:
1. Robot must follow the line at all times.
2. Each team can take a maximum of 3 tries.
3. Bypasses are NOT allowed in this round
This Round has total 50 points. The division of points for this round is shown in the Points Table-1
Points Table-1

ROUND 2:
This round is about accuracy and to test if the robot can navigate correctly when directions are given.
The robot has to navigate between the walls with no line to follow. Then the robot has to follow the
black line as in round 1 but this time it also has to follow directions which are given in the form of
colored boxes. The color of the box will tell the robot in which direction to move at POINT F. Red color
means that the robot need to turn right and green color means that the robot must turn left at POINT
F (End Point). Additional Rules for this Round are given below:
1. In this arena the contestants will be given 5 minutes to complete the arena, during which the robot
can take as many retries as the team wishes. No Points will be deducted for retries.
2. When the robot reaches the color box-1 it should detect the color of the box and continue
following the line until it reaches POINT F where the robot should turn right if the color of box-1
is red and turn left if the color of box-1 is green.
3. For this round, bypasses are allowed, a team can take maximum of two bypasses in each try.
4. During the span of 5 minutes, the retry in which the robot gains the max points will be considered
as robot’s final score.
5. If two teams fail to complete the tasks within the time limit and have the same points than the
team that took less time shall be declared winner.
6. 2-D and 3-D model for Arena 2 is given in figure 2 and 3 respectively at the end pages.
7. This Round has total 100 points.

Points Table-2:
Task Points
1 Crossing the walls and reaching the Point A 20
2 Reaching the Point B 10
3 Reaching the Point C after successfully detecting color of the box 20
(if the robot does not get in the vicinity of color box, then Half points-10)
4 Reaching the Point D 10
5 Reaching the Point E 20
6 Reaching the Point F 5
7 Taking the Correct Turn at point F, according to the color on Box-1 and Stopping. 15
Total Points 100

3. ROBOTICS WORKSHOP:
Event info:
Date: 25th February 2019
Time: 11 am – 1 pm
Place: Main Auditorium
Team: 3-4 members per team
Reg Fee: 500 PKR

Description:
Robotics has an utmost significance in industrial sector. Many industries in Pakistan use
robotic arms, Cartesian coordinate robots and delta robots. Thus, it is onus for the students
to get to know field of robotics in more detailed way, for a regular curriculum is not enough
for a student to absorb it.
Mechatronics Club is again bringing the robotics workshop for students who urge to enhance
their knowledge in the field of Robotics. The participants will learn to assemble Robix Robot
Kits and to program the assembled robot to perform a certain task.
Robotics Workshop is one of the renowned workshops organized by Mechatronics Club. Last year, the
Workshop was held in Main Auditorium under the supervision of Club’s Technical Team . Hundreds of
students from all over Pakistan participated in last year’s workshop.
