INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY – INT1001

Given: Week of September 1, 2008


Due: Week of September 22, 2008

Instructions: Prepare a research paper that is no less than ten (10) pages and no more than
fifteen (15) pages on any one of the following topics.

Topic 1: E-Participation

You are required to produce a report on e-participation in Jamaica and the


wider Caribbean that discusses, but is not limited to, the following:
- Various definitions of e-participation and the common
components/terms arising from the definitions
- Forms of participation usually undertaken between a government and
its citizens
- The information and communication technologies used to facilitate e-
participation
- Privacy, security and ethical issues related to e-participation
- Ways in which e-participation can be used to enhance the relationship
between Caribbean governments and its citizens
- Barriers/Challenges to the successful implementation of e-participation
in the local and Caribbean political arena

Topic 2: Social Networking

You are required to produce a report on social networking that discusses,


but is not limited to, the following:
- Various definitions of social networking and the common
components/terms arising from the definitions
- Key features and types of social networking sites
- The information and communication technologies used to facilitate
social networking
- Privacy, security and ethical issues related to social networking
- Ways in which social networking can be used to enhance the
traditional educational process
- Barriers/Challenges to the successful use of social networking in our
local and regional educational institutions

The project should be done in your tutorial groups with NO MORE than four (4) students
per group. Include a breakdown of the tasks carried out by each member of the group.

Submission:

Your submission must utilize the APA (American Psychological Association)* documentation
format of reporting and should outline the tasks carried out by each member of the group.
Students will be graded for their contribution to the research. All reports MUST show
students’ names, ID numbers, tutor and group.

(APA Formatting will be explained in your lab sessions.)

Content (addresses all topics, accurate, adequate and relevant 20
information, examples, cases, inclusion of a variety of reputable
references to indicate substantial research - journal articles,
papers, books etc. etc.)
Analysis (well-supported arguments, proper interpretation and 30
communication of issues supported by evidence, examination of
issues from various perspectives, use of not just factual
information but integrates facts with own ideas etc.)
