TRANSDERMAL PATCH

Good day beautiful people, I am DONEVA LYN B. MEDINA, your health educator. And this is SALAMAT
NURSE.

In this video, I am going to demonstrate to you how to apply transdermal patch. So, what is
transdermal patch and how do transdermal patch work?

A transdermal patch adheres to the skin as a way to deliver drugs. It provides a specific dose of
medication which is absorbed through the skin and into the blood stream. At the point of application,
adhesive secures the patch to the skin. This allows the drug access to the skin, where permeation
begins.

1. Bring equipment to patient’s bedside. Do courtesy, this is to integrate value of character

development. Introduce yourself to the patient, it is the patients right to know who is caring for her.
Check the medication order against physician’s order according to agency policy.

2. Identify the person by checking the identification band on the patient’s wrist and asking the patient
his or her name. Ask patient about any allergies.

3. Explain the procedure to the patient. (Acts as a carrier for a drug, holding it until the point of
application. At the point of application, adhesive secures the patch to the skin. This allows the drug
access to the skin, where permeation begins.)

4. Perform hand hygiene and don gloves.

5. Assess the patient’s skin where patch is to be placed, looking for any signs of irritation or any areas
that are broken down. Find place that does not have a large amount of hair on chest or back, scissors
may be used to trim hair. Do not shave hair.

6. Remove any old transdermal patches that are left on patient. Gently wash the area where the old
patch was, with soap and water.

7. Remove cover without touching the adhesive side. Lie patch on patient’s skin, pressing firmly with
palm of hand for 10 seconds.

8. On transdermal patch, write your initials, date, and time. Follow according to agency policy.

9. Remove gloves and perform hand hygiene.

10. Chart the site of administration of medication after the patch has been placed.

11. Evaluate the patient’s response to medication within the appropriate time frame.

So that is how you apply a transdermal patch. Thank you so much for watching.
STEAM INHALATION
Good day beautiful people, I am DONEVA LYN B. MEDINA, your health educator. And this is SALAMAT
NURSE.

In this video, I am going to demonstrate to you how to inhale steam. So, what is steam inhalation and
its benefits?

Steam inhalation is one of the most widely (oldest known) used home remedies to soothe and open
the nasal passages and get relief from the symptoms of a cold or sinus infection. The main benefit of
breathing in moist, warm steam is that may help ease feelings of irritation and swollen blood vessels
in the nasal passages. This can allow your breathing to return to normal, at least for a short period of
time.

For our steam therapy we will use the hot water and bowl method. For this method, we will need a
large bowl, preferably with handle, water, a pot or kettle and a stove or microwave for heating up
water, Towel or wrap to cover your head. And for the ingredients we can add Salt, Leaves
(eucalyptus, herbs, ginger, etc.), Eucalyptus oil (essential oils), Vicks, turmeric powder.

1. Heat up the water to boiling.

2. Carefully pour the hot water into the bowl on a table. (Hot water and bowl)
3. Drape the towel over the back of your head to prevent the steam from escaping.
4. Turn on a timer.
5. Shut your eyes and slowly lower your head toward the hot water until you’re about 8 to 12
inches away from the water. Be extremely careful to avoid making direct contact with the
water.
6. Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose for at least two to five minutes.
7. Once done, remove the towel and wipe your face with tissue or a clean cloth.

So that is how you inhale a steam. Thank you so much for watching.
