SVI II AP Digital Upgrade Procedure

App Note: 13-001: Rev E. (04/28/2016)

Applicable To:

SVI2AP (not applicable to SVI2 units)

Topic: Firmware

SVI II AP Digital upgrades consist of two parts:

“Part I Order Entry”

“Part II Upgrade Procedure”

Part I Order Entry

1. Determine the type of upgrade and how many units in each upgrade.
2. Place an order for the upgrades according to the part number as in Figure 1.

Once GE’s Masoneilan receives your PO they e-mail the upgrade key and this upgrade
instruction document. The upgrade key is unique to the PO and upgrade part number. Save
this number as it is critical for “Part II Upgrade Procedure”.

Part II Upgrade Procedure

1. Power the unit up and extract existing device information using one of two methods:
Automated: Connect the PC with Smarts Assistant software via HART modem to the
device, extract and store the device file (see “Save the Existing Device Configuration”).
This preferred method ensures the accuracy and efficiency of the procedure.
Manual: This procedure requires sufficient access to the device to be able to read and
document the SVI II AP tag device serial number and part number.

NOTE The serial and part numbers are very small. Double check to
ensure accuracy.

If the electronics module was replaced in the field, then the unit
must be opened to retrieve the serial number off the electronics
module (not from SVI II AP tag).
2. E-mail the device file or written data from Step 1, along with the upgrade key obtained in
“Part I Order Entry”, to software.reg@ge.com.
3. Receiving the option file: On receipt of the e-mail, GE’s Masoneilan sends the option file
(.opt) to the sender’s e-mail address. Save the file in a folder so that it is accessible from
Smarts Assistant Standard Software.
4. Upgrading the unit. Refer to “Part II Upgrade Procedure”. This step requires a PC with
Smarts Assistant Standard Software connected to SVI II AP via a HART modem.

WARNING This procedure can be performed in any mode and causes a warm
reset on the device which may cause the valve to move. Therefore,
if performed while the valve in service, there could be a
momentary process disturbance.

If you require any assistance, contact the Digital Product Help desk at 1-888-SVI-LINE (North
America).
