Extensive study of the effects of indoor air and surface biological contaminan ts such as mold and bacteria as trigger agents of hypersensitivities and respira tory allergies specifically in the immune compromised hosts. Graduate courses in immunology, hematology, bacteriology & parasitology in the School of Health Sciences, Grand Valley State University, Allendale, MI 49401 J an.1991 - Nov 92 Doctoral: Genetic analysis of the yellow fever mosquito Aedes aegypti as the vector of the yellow fever virus. Study of the impact of this mosquito and the yellow feve r virus on the host immune system. Study of the esterase enzymes and their genet ic systems with regard to genetic polymorphism by using poly acrylamide electrop horesis. Thesis. RESEARCH TOPICS: Doctoral Thesis: An extensive study of the esterase enzymes in the yellow fever mosquito was cond ucted. Esterase enzymes develop genetic immunity for such mosquitoes against ins ecticides. Genetic polymorphism in six esterase loci were investigated by using protein electrophoresis. Two new loci were mapped. Post Doctoral: Genetics and immunology of the ABO blood groups of geographical and ethnically d iverse populations in Iran were studied. An evolutionary study of the association of diseases with the ABO blood groups i n several Iranian populations was conducted. Residential and commercial indoor air quality investigation was undertaken. Inve stigations pursued the link between bioaerosols and microbial contaminants as al lergens and hypersensitivity trigger agents especially in the immune compromised hosts such as the elderly and children.
