I. OBJECTIVES:
Within a given period, the grade 10 students will be able to:
a. identify the type of figures of speech use in the sentence;
b. make a sentence using the different figures of speech;
c. show appreciation of the importance of Figures of Speech.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

III. PROCEDURE

A. DAILY ROUTINE
1. Opening Prayer
“ Everybody stand for an opening prayer.” ( Students Pray)

2. GREETINGS
“Good morning everybody!” “Good morning sir Turga!”
“ Kindly take your seat.” “Thank you sir”
“ Hi everyone! How are you today?” “ We are pretty glad sir”
“ Alright! So are you excited to what we are going to learn today?” “ Yes we are”

3. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

I will present the game The Crossword puzzle. Let the student find a
word inside the box and to those who can find the correct word will
receive a prize.

7. ACTIVITY
(GROUP ACTIVITY)
“ Before we start to discuss a new lesson today, let us first have a
group activity”
I will divide the class into 4 groups, after that I will give two pictures
to each of the group and all groups should answer the question given
below the pictures. You only have two minutes to do and finish the
task. After two minutes, each group should select one representative “ Yes sir!”
to present and explain their answers. (students go to their respective
group)

Alright! That is why I gave you a coloured picture and black and
white picture and asked you which one is attractive . You have said
that the coloured one is attractive. It is the same as figurative
language . Figurative language paints meaningful and colourful
picture to every minds of the reader to be interested to what particular
literary text they are reading. “

“ Can you now guess what is our lesson for today?”

“Our lesson for today is about Figures of Speech.”
“ Have you heard this before?”
Okay figures of speech do not make sense is applied literally but they
paint vivid word pictures when their imaginative meanings are
applied”

“ There are many types of figures of speech. But today, we will


discuss only the 4 types”

“ Which among of these four types are you familiar with, class”

“ Now let us know what is Alliteration. Can you please read the
meaning of Alliteration presented on the board, Jenelyn?” ( Jenelyn read the meaning of
Alliteration)
Alliteration- it is a literary device which involves the repetition of a
similar sound in the sentence. Alliteration are also created when the
words all begin with the same letter.
“ Please read the given examples” ( The students will read the

1. She sell sea shell by the sea shore.
2. Lazy leaping lizard likes licking lollipop.
3. My mind makes marvellous moves.

Anaphora- a figure of speech in which words repeat at the beginning
of successive clause, phrases or sentences.

Hyperbole- it is an exaggerated statements or claims not to meant to

Onomatopoeia- a literary device that imitates the natural sound of a


thing. It creates a sound effect that mimics the thing described. ( The students will read the

1. The buzzing bee flew away.
2. Ding dong! The bells are gonna chime.
3. Tick tock! On the clock but the party don’t stop.
Other sounds: Boooom!, Bang!, Buz, argh, crack, meow, vroom, zap. ( The students will raise their hands
and will answer the question)
9. ABSTRACTION

“ What do you mean by figures of speech ?”


“ How many figures of speech we have just discussed, Ana?”
“ What are the four figures of speech we have discussed?”

“ Can you define Alliteration, Lea?”


“ Can you give me an example of Alliteration?”

“ How about Anaphora, Peter?”

“ How about Hyperbole, Micah?”

“ Can you give me an example of Hyperbole?”

“ How about Onomatopoeia, Denz?”

“ Can you give me an example of Onomatopoeia,?”

10. APPLICATION

“ Now let’s see if you really understand the lesson by playing this
very simple yet amazing game. This game is called “ Figurative
Language Reaction”
( The teacher will explain the game)
“ I have here four emojis, I will read the sentence and all you have to
do is to raise the emoji that corresponds to the answer and when I say
that “ All together raise your Figurative language emoji” then after ( The students listen)
that you are going to pass the emoji at the back if you got the correct
answer and if you got the wrong answer remain it to you.

Directions: Identify the figurative language used in the following

IV. EVALUATION
DIRECTIONS: On your ¼ sheet of pad paper, Identify the figurative
language used in the following lines. Choose your answer inside the
box.

1. Gretta gathered green gumballs.

V. ASSIGNMENT
DIRECTIONS: Make at least 2 sentences in each of the figures of
speech. Write in on your notebook.
