Novice Rules Nederlandse

Debatbond
As determined on the 21st Bondsraad on January 22, 2016, in Utrecht.

The Nederlandse Debatbond and its member societies and organisations will utilise the following
criteria to determine whether a speaker will be placed in the novice category at organised
tournaments by them. A speaker is a novice when:

1. They have been a member of a university debating society or another debating


society with the main target group being adults for at most one (1) calendar
year.

2. They have never broken at a parliamentary student debating tournament and


simultaneously being in the top 20% of speakers.

3. Exempted from point 2 are breaks at tournaments that:


● Only allow novices as speakers;
● Only allow speakers of their own society;
● Have twenty (20) or less participating teams.

4. They have never been a part of the final selection to participate in the World
Schools Debating Championships.

5. They have participated in at most four (4) student debating tournaments while
being a high school student.
