Science L.E 3rd Q Climate
Teacher-Led Modality
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate understanding factors that affect climate, and the
effects of changing climate and how to adapt accordingly.
B. Performance Standard The learners should be able to participate in activities that reduce risks and
lessen effects of climate change
C. Most Essential Learning Explain how different factors affect the climate of an area
Competencies (MELC) S9ES -IIIe - 30
(if available write the indicated MELC)
D. Enabling Competencies
(if available write the attached enabling
competencies)
II. CONTENT Explain how different factors affect the climate of an area
( Motivation: )
I. Teacher will show a video about the different factors affecting
the climate.
II. Video Analysis.
GUIDE QUESTION:
B. Development The teacher will discuss first the difference between weather and climate.
There are four recognized climate types in the Philippines, and they are
based on the distribution of rainfall. They are described as follows:
Type III. Seasons are not very pronounced, relatively dry from
November to April, and wet during the rest of the year.
The distance from the equator- At the poles, energy from the sun
reaches the Earth's surface at lower angles, and passes through a
thicker layer of atmosphere than at the equator. This means the
climate is cooler further from the equator.
Distance from bodies of water. Coastal areas are cooler and wetter
than inland areas. Clouds form when warm air from inland areas meets
cool air from the sea. Landmasses heat up more quickly than water
bodies as it receives solar radiation from the sun, but also loses heat
more quickly than water. So, in hot seasons, most especially at
daytime, the sea or ocean remains cooler than the continent and
therefore reduces the temperatures of adjacent lands. In cold seasons
and at night, the sea remains warmer and therefore raises the
temperatures of places close to it. We can therefore say that the sea
moderates the climate of the coastal areas by keeping the
temperatures not too high and not too low, or at means.
C. Engagement After learning the factors affecting climate of an area, the teacher will
have another activities that will help the students to apply what they
have learned in the discussion.

Activity: Identify the Picture Quiz
(Picture quiz about the different factors affecting climate)
4. Ocean currents
5. Topography of an area
IV Assimilation
Generalization:
What are the factors affecting the climate of an specific area?
Why is it important to know and be aware of the different factors affecting
the climate?
To test and evaluate the students’ learning, the teacher will give a short quiz,
1-5 items.
Directions: Read each question carefully. Choose the letter of the correct
answer based on what you have learned in our today’s lesson.
5. The farther you live from an ocean, the more likely your climate will
be?
a. colder
b. warmer
c. climate never changes if you are near or far from the ocean
d. climate is not related with the distance from the ocean
