1 Overview

1.1 Objective
This document describes the procedure and step by step operation for replacing a
faulty UMPT in a BBU3900. It guides onsite and remote engineers to perform the
UMPT replacement by both locally and remotely ways. And meet maintenance
engineers expectation that reducing the service interruption and the site visiting
times.

2 UMPT Replacement Implementation

2.1 Prerequisites
 Confirm the UMPT board was faulty, and a new board has been prepared.
 Prepare the MBTS Software, save inside local PC for LMT local upgrading or upload to OSS server
 Associated personnel have gained permission to access the site and have obtained the required
keys.

2.2 Process for UMPT Board Replacement


The UMPT board replacement progress, except the local UMPT new board replacing
with the old board, the others steps can be implemented both locally and remotely. In
T project, some regions did not enable the DHCP function, so only can use the local
way.

2.3 Preparation for UMPT Replacement


2.3.1 Back Up Configuration Data
According to the site scenario, choose backup data file locally or remotely before the
operation.

1)Back Up Configuration Data (LMT)——Local Operation

1 Use the BKP CFGFILE command to back up the current configuration of the BS. □Yes

2.3.3 Block Cells


Block all cells under the base station, In a multimode base station, the cells of each
mode must be blocked

1 If is the base station is a GBTS, Run the LST GCELL command on the BSC to query the □Yes
administrative state of the cells under the base station. Then, run the SET GCELLADMSTAT □No
command with the ADMSTAT parameter set to LOCK to block all cells under the base station.

If is the base station is a eGBTS, Run the BLK GLOCELL command on the eGBTS to block all
cells under the eGBTS.

If is the base station is a NodeB, Run the BLK ULOCELL command on the NodeB to block all
cells under the NodeB.

If is the base station is a eNodeB, Run the BLK CELL command on the NodeB to block all
cells under the eNodeB.

2.3.4 Replace UMPT——Local Operation

2. Record all the cable connections on the panel of the module to be replaced.
3. Remove the transmission cable from the UMPT. If a surge protection board is configured,
the surge protection transfer cable also needs to be removed, as shown in the following figure.
4. Loosen the two M3 screws on the panel, raise the ejector lever, and pull out the UMPT, as
shown in the following figure.

CAU TION:
 When removing a board, hold the board with both hands and remove it from the subrack
slowly.
 When transporting a board, hold the board with both hands.

5. Install the new board, lower the ejector levers, tighten the screws on the board panel to 0.6
N·m (5.31 lbf·in.), and reconnect the cables.

2.3.5 Restore Software and Configuration Data on new UMPT


If preparations for remotely restoring of software and configuration data
have been finished before the replacement, go to part 2) to use U2000
restore it.
If preparations for locally restoring of software and configuration data have
been finished before the replacement, perform the following operations:
