Dehydration design:

Gas production rate = 250 MMscfd = 7.078 Msm3d

Operating Pressure = 1000 psig = 1014.7 psia = 6997.93 Kpa

Container maximum working pressure = 1500 psig = 1514.7 psia = 10344.82 Kpa

Gas inlet temperature = 100℉ = 37.78℃ = 560° R = 310.78° K

Given sample of gas is:

Hence γ g = =0 .628
28.964

Now we need to calculate Z

Calculations for Pseudo-critical Temperature and Pressure: By using the correlations we get:

P pc =709.604−58.718 γ g

P pc =709.604−58.718∗0.6 28

Or
P pc =672.72 9 0

T pc=170.491+307.344 γ g

T pc=170.491+307.344∗0.6 28

Or
T pc=363.5030

Pseudo-reduce Temperature and Pressures are calculated as:

P
P pr=
P pc

1014.69
P pr = =1.5 083
672.7290

T
T pr =
T pc

560
T pr = =1.5405
363.5030

Now,

P pr
= 0.9790
T pr

From Standing & Katz chart we will calculate Z-factor as 0.88

Optimized required Dehydration rate = 95% (Based on economical aspects)

Glycol to water circulation rate = 5.5 gal TEG/ lb H 2 O = 45.89 litres TEG/Kg H 2 O

Lean Glycol concentration = 99.5

Water content specification is 7 lb H 2 O /MMscf = 112.13 mg H 2 O /Sm3

From figure 20-4 (GPSA) @ 6997.93 Kpa, H 2 O dew point is -3℃, W ¿ =¿970 mg H 2 O /Sm3

Now, Water removal efficiency is given as

W ¿ −W out 970−112.13
= =0.8844 = 88.44%
W¿ 970

This value is less than our required Removal efficiency of 95%.

Hence we proceed as follows

From figure 20-70, numbers of theoretical stages are calculated as
Given: 45.89 litres TEG/Kg H 2 O & Lean Glycol concentration = 99.5%

This gives:

W ¿ −W out
=94.5 %
W¿

Required water removal efficiency is 95% which is greater than 94.5%, hence numbers of
required stages are more than 1.5

From figure 20-71 GPSA

This gives:

W ¿ −W out
=96.5 %
W¿

Required water removal efficiency is 95% which is lesser than 96.5%, hence numbers of
required stages are 2.

2 trays = 8 bubble cap trays @ 0.6 m tray spacing or is equal to 3 m of structural packing.

(From table 20-75 GPSA)

For size of contactor:

From table 20-75 GPSA

C = 176

ρl For TEG = 1119.7 kg /m3 (From table 20-56 GPSA)

18479.53
ρ v= =28.49 kg /m3
0.8 8∗0.4205∗310

Now,

G=C∗√ ρ v (ρl−ρ v )=176∗√ ¿ ¿H

7.078∗106∗0.628∗28.97
M= =226965.5712 Kg /Hr
23.64∗24

Now, Area (A) = M/G =226965.5712/31032.23 = 7.3138 m 2

Hence we get diameter = 3.052 m

For structured packing:

From table 20-75 (GPSA)

C structured packing = 384 (Taking average value of 329 and 439)

C bubble cap
D=
√ C structured packing
*(D bubble cap)

=√ 176/384 *3.052 = 2.066 m.
