Law of Sin & Death Vs The Curse of The Law
Law of Sin & Death Vs The Curse of The Law
Is there a difference between the Law of Sin & Death in Romans 8:2 and
the curse of the Law in Galatians 3:13?
Romans 8:2: the LAW of the Spirit-of-Life in Christ Jesus has made me
free from the Law of Sin-and-Death.
Galatians 3:13: Christ has redeemed us from the Curse of the Law, being
made a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone that hangs on a
tree”.
Adam:
Romans 5:12
By one man, Adam, sin came into the world and death by sin and so death
passed upon all men…..
When the Law was given sickness and disease resulting in physical death
could be escaped. God specifically gave Israel instructions concerning this
in Deuteronomy 28. There we see spelled out the ‘blessings’ of adhering to
God’s Word and the ‘curses’ that would come from breaking His
Commandments.
Even though the Old Testament people didn’t get a new nature, they could
be preserved from sickness through keeping the commandments.
There was however a law that continued to operate on their mortal bodies:
the law of death. They all eventually died physically even if during their
lifetime they had lived free from the curse of the Law.
Dr. John G. Lake in his sermon entitled, “The Law of Life and the Law of
Death”, mentions three laws:
He states:
“Man is COMPELLED TO RECOGNIZE that there exists A LAW OF
DEATH IN HIS OWN MEMBERS. The hair turns gray, the eyes grow dim,
NOT BECAUSE YOU ARE SICK, but because the LAW OF DEATH is
operating in you.
….the operation of the law of death that EXISTS IN OUR MEMBERS,
permeates our being and is established in our nature.”
Here by nature he does not mean your spiritual nature.
If you have been born again, the law of death does not exist in your new
creation.
He is speaking about the fact that as human beings because of Adam’s sin,
our physical bodies are subject to dying/the law of death.
Paul called the death of your body “the final enemy”. This ‘final enemy’ is
not listed in the curses of Deuteronomy 28.
The Work of the Cross redeemed us from the curse of breaking God’s
commands/Law (Galatians 3:10), but it has not redeemed us from this ‘law
of death’ which is working in/on/against the physical body of even the most
anointed servant of God (Romans 8:2).
If you should tarry until Jesus returns for His Church, your body will be
‘changed in the twinkling of an eye. Your mortal body will put on
immortality’ - the law of death swallowed up in victory!
Should the law of death claim your physical body before that, you will
depart and be with the Lord to be rejoined with your resurrected body when
He returns for His Church.
The question I am entertaining is: “Does the body have to be afflicted with
OLD AGE DISEASES because the law of death is operating in it?”
The diseases listed in Deuteronomy 28 anyone can be subject to.
The law of death Dr. Lake is speaking of above, works against the physical
body as a result of aging/growing older.
I want to establish that even THIS CATEGORY of the operation of the law
of death CAN BE DEFEATED through THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE
IN CHRIST JESUS.
We cannot defeat these aging diseases that accompany the working of the
‘law of death’ without asking this question..
I am searching God’s Word.
I am learning about modern day believers that have escaped the
debilitating operations of this law.
When I put together the Scriptures for a book called, “Scriptural Medicine
for Physical Healing”, I included a chapter of foundational verses, the first
one being Romans 8:2, which I call the ‘granddaddy of all the healing
verses’.
This statement in the opening remarks to that chapter have stuck with me:
“We must learn about the Law of Life and TRAIN OURSELVES to live it.”
