FAQs Heart Diseases
● Nilalamig at nagpapawis
● Pamumutla
Cardiovascular diseases or CVDs are groups of diseases of the heart and its medium such as:
● Coronary Heart Disease - a disease of the blood vessels leading to the heart muscle
● Cerebrovascular Diseases - diseases from the blood vessels to the brain
● Peripheral Arterial Disease - pain from the blood vessels to the arms and legs
● Rheumatic Heart Disease - damage to the heart muscle and heart valves from
rheumatic fever; caused by streptococcal bacteria
● Congenital Heart Disease - wrong form of heart from birth
● Deep Vein Thrombosis and pulmonary embolism - blood clots in the veins of the legs,
which can reach the heart and lungs
Heart attacks and strokes, on the other hand, are caused by blockage that prevents the proper
flow of blood to the heart or brain. The blockage is caused by accumulated fatty deposits or
accumulated fat that is inserted around the bloodstream.
Q: What are the risk factors or factors that increase the risk of having CVDs?
Risk factors include not eating nutritious food, not being physically active, smoking and
drinking alcohol. Other risk factors you do not control are age, your family history and sex.
Symptoms in these diseases do not appear immediately. Often, a heart attack or stroke can
be the first warning of a more serious illness. Symptoms of a heart attack include:
● Pain or discomfort in the middle of the chest
● Pain or discomfort in the arm, left shoulder, elbow, or jaw
● Difficulty breathing or fatigue
● Unhealthy illness with vomiting
● Cold and sweaty
● Pale
The main symptom of a stroke is numbness of the face, arms or legs, usually in only one part
of the body.
