11. How is the intensity of love between Romeo and Juliet brought out
in the poem “Romeo and Juliet”?

- Romeo sees Juliet on the dance floor and gets fascinated by her beauty. She looks brighter than the
burning torches. She stands apart like a rich jewel in anEthiop’s ear. Juliet’s beauty ceases to be mundane for
Romeo and her beauty is very rare on earth. Juliet appears like a snowy dove among her companions who
look like crows. After the dance is over, Romeo wishes to shake hands with Juliet. He hopes that her gentle
beauty would transform his rudeness. Romeo admits that he has never come across a striking beauty like that
of Juliet.
Juliet too feels an intense love for Romeo. He appears like new snow on a raven’s back. His
appearance makes a striking difference to her, like the day in night. Juliet is looking forward to meeting Romeo
on that night. She hopes that the gentle night would immortalize Romeo after his death by cutting him out in little
stars. The sky would appear brighter with these little stars. This would make the world fall in love with night and
forget the garish sun. Thus, Juliet is trying to highlight the splendid personality of Romeo.
