Technology – Based Art
(Digital Photography, Video Games, Digital Painting, Video
Technology/Imaging Videos)
What is It
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Digital photography is the process of using
electronic and computing appliances to capture,
create, edit and share digital images/photographs.
It encompasses several different technologies to
provide electronic or computer – based
photography services. It is mainly used as means
to create, publish or use digital photographs on
computers and/or the Internet.
10
Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR)
This also provides the film-less and instant
review features of a “point-shoot” type of digital
camera, but gives the photographer much more
artistic freedom and control to select the camera
settings to create the desired final image with the
preferred visual effects.
VIDEO GAMES
Any of various interactive games played using specialized electronic gaming
device or a computer or mobile device and a television or other display screen, along with
a means to control graphic images. There are also tremendously popular games with
different categories such as: strategy, war, science fiction, and mythical worlds that
employ amazingly complex and realistic graphics, motion, sound, and other special
effects.
11
DIGITAL PAINTING
Is a method of creating an artwork using a
computer. Digital painting is created using a graphics
program, a virtual paint box with brushes, colors and oth-
er supplies. The definition applies to a painting on its
primary digital carrier (as a computer file) as well as when
it is transferred in a non-manual process to a secondary physical carrier (printed on paper,
acrylic glass, aluminum, canvas, etc.)
12
Medical/scientific purposes
Another extremely valuable use of today’s video
technology is that of imaging videos in the fields of
medicine and science. You may be familiar with
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computerized To-
mography (CT scans), and the like which are used to
create and record visual images of a patient’s internal
anatomy in order to diagnose and treat diseases and
injuries. There are also ultrasound tests or sonograms,
which translates sound waves bouncing off physical
objects into images that can be studied - whether a
baby developing in the womb (in 2D, 3D, and 4D options) growths or malformations
inside the body, structural flaws in buildings, as well as objects in outer space,
underground, and deep in the ocean.
