1. Compute the mean, median, and mode.
 Mean
xbar = 3.5 + 3 + 2.5 + 4 + 4.5 + 2 + 1.5 + 3 + 2 + 2.5 + 3 + 3.5
12
= 35 / 12
= 2.92
 Median
1.5 2 2 2.5 2.5 3 3 3 3.5 3.5 4 4.5

median rank = (n + 1) / 2 = (12 + 1) / 2 = 13 / 2 = 5.5

= (3+3) / 2 = 6 / 2 = 3
 Mode
3; unimodal

2.Compute the range, interquartile range, variance, standard deviation, coefficient of

variation.
 Range
R = HV – LV = 4.5 – 1.5 = 3
 Interquartile Range
Q3 = 3(n + 1) / 4 = 3 (12 + 1) / 4 = 9.75 rank
Q3 = 3.5 + 0.75 (3.5 – 3.5) = 3.5 Q3 value

Q1 = (n + 1) / 4 = (12 + 1) / 4 = 3.25 rank

Q1 = 2 + 0.25 (2.5 – 2) = 2.18 Q1 value

IQR = Q3 – Q1 = 3.5 – 2.18 = 1.37

 Variance
x (x – xbar)2
1.5 (1.5 – 2.92)2 = 2.02
2 (2 – 2.92)2 = 0.85
2 (2 – 2.92)2 = 0.85
2.5 (2.5 – 2.92)2 = 0.18
2.5 (2.5 – 2.92)2 = 0.18
3 (3 – 2.92)2 = 0.01
3 (3 – 2.92)2 = 0.01
3 (3 – 2.92)2 = 0.01
3.5 (3.5 – 2.92)2 = 0.34
3.5 (3.5 – 2.92)2 = 0.34
4 (4 – 2.92)2 = 1.17
4.5 (4.5 – 2.92)2 = 2.50
Ʃ 35 Ʃ 8.46
xbar = 35 / 12 S = 8.46 / 12 – 1 =
2

= 2.92 0.77
 Standard Deviation
S = √ S2 = √ 0.77 = 0.88
 Coefficient of Variation
CV = S x 100 % = 0.88 x 100 = 30.14%
xbar 2.92

3. Determine if there any outliers in the set of data.

Z = (x – xbar)
S
Zlowest = (1.5 – 2.92) = -1.61
0.88
Zhighest = (4.5 – 2.92) = 1.80
0.88

Based on the computed z-cores, none of the values in the set of data is an
outlier.

4. How are the set of data distributed? Present your basis.

The mean and median numbers of hours spend on Facebook of the 12
college students were 2.92 and 3 respectively. As such, we can say that the data
were negatively skewed because the mean of 2.92 is less than the median of 3.

1. Compute the mean, median, and mode.
 Mean
xbar = 4.5 + 4 + 3.5 + 5 + 4 + 3.5 + 4 + 4.5 + 3 + 3.5 + 2.5 + 3
12
= 45 / 12
= 3.75

 Median
2.5 3 3 3.5 3.5 3.5 4 4 4 4.5 4.5 5

median rank = (n + 1) / 2 = (12 + 1) / 2 = 13 / 2 = 5.5

= (3.5+4) / 2 = 7.5 / 2 = 3.75

 Mode
3.5 and 4; Bimodal

2. Compute the range, interquartile range, variance, standard deviation, coefficient of

variation.
 Range
R = HV – LV = 5 – 2.5 = 2.5

 Interquartile Range
Q3 = 3(n + 1) / 4 = 3 (12 + 1) / 4 = 9.75 rank
Q3 = 4 + 0.75 (4.5 – 4) = 4.38 Q3 value

Q1 = (n + 1) / 4 = (12 + 1) / 4 = 3.25 rank

Q1 = 3 + 0.25 (3.5 – 3) = 3.13 Q1 value

IQR = Q3 – Q1 = 4.38 – 3.13 = 1.25

 Variance

x (x – xbar)2
2.5 (2.5 – 3.75)2 = 1.56
3 (3 – 3.75)2 = 0.56
3 (3 – 3.75)2 = 0.56
3.5 (3.5 – 3.75)2 = 0.06
3.5 (3.5 – 3.75)2 = 0.06
3.5 (3.5 – 3.75)2 = 0.06
4 (4 – 3.75)2 = 0.06
4 (4 – 3.75)2 = 0.06
4 (4 – 3.75)2 = 0.06
4.5 (4.5 – 3.75)2 = 0.56
4.5 (4.5 – 3.75)2 = 0.56
5 (5 – 3.75)2 = 1.56
Ʃ 45 Ʃ 5.72
xbar = 45 / 12 = S = 5.72 / 12 – 1 = 0.52
2

3.75

 Standard Deviation
S = √ S2 = √ 0.52 = 0.72

 Coefficient of Variation
CV = S x 100 % = 0.72 x 100 = 19.2%
xbar 3.75

3. Determine if there any outliers in the set of data.

Z = (x – xbar)
S
Zlowest = (2.5 – 3.75) = -1.74
0.72
Zhighest = (5 – 3.75) = 1.74
0.72

Based on the computed z-cores, none of the values in the set of data is an
outlier.

4. How are the set of data distributed? Present your basis.

The mean and median numbers of hours spend on Online Games of the 12
college students were both 3.75. As such, we can say that the data were
symmetrical because the mean and the median are equal.
