Developing Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Using Arduino IDE

Background of the Study

Due to compacted mud, debris, waste, and sediment beneath the Cagayan River, the
Philippines' largest and longest river, its bed is becoming shallower over time, causing flooding
in the province and surrounding areas. As modern technology has grown too fast in this digital
age as a result of the expansion and development of innovative technologies that are highly
useful in various industries. The development of underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV)
using Arduino IDE can be more helpful and efficient in terms of investigating and monitoring
underwater activities.

Underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) is used in a variety of industries: Search

and Rescue, Military, Recreation and Discovery, Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Oil, Gas,
Offshore Energy, Shipping, Submerged Infrastructure, and more. Wherein they allow operators
to capture photo and video footage to inspect and monitor ports, harbours, and vessels, bring
innovation to pipe inspections, locate underwater targets and explore the depths of our oceans,
lakes and rivers. (Trekker,D. 2022). This device is very reliable and helpful in terms of
monitoring underwater activities and their present status, which will aid authorities in their
investigation.

The study aims to develop an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) that is less
expensive than commercially available ROVs, which cost between 25,000 and 250,000 pesos.
The ROV will aid the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 2 in
investigating flooding issues in the Cagayan River and in times of emergency, such as recovering
the bodies of drowned victims.
