Differentiate first level and second level assessment.

First level assessment is a process whereby existing and


potential health conditions or problems are categorized as;
Wellness state, Health Threats, Health Deficit, Stress points or
foreseeable crisis situation. Second level assessment defines
the nature or type of nursing problems that the family
encounters in performing the health tasks with respect to a
given health condition or problems and etiology or barriers to
the family’s assumption of these task.

- Inability to recognize presence of a possible complication
of pregnancy due to lack of knowledge.
- Inability to provide adequate nursing care to pregnant
member due to; lack of knowledge on the nature and
management of the health condition; lack of knowledge on
the nature and extend of nursing care needed.
- Failure to utilize community resources for health care due
to; failure to perceived benefits of health care; Physical
inaccessibility of required service facility or urinalysis
in terms of distance from the house.

Malnutrition as a Health Deficit

- Inability to recognize the presence of malnutrition in a
dependent member due to lack of knowledge.
- Inability to decide about taking appropriate health action
due to failure to comprehend the nature, magnitude and
scope of the problem.
- Inability to provide adequate nursing care to a member
suffering from malnutrition due to:
A. lack of knowledge about health condition
B. Lack of knowledge on the nature and extent of nursing
care needed
C. Inadequate resources for care.

Scabies as Health Deficit

- Inability to provide adequate nursing care to preschooler
with scabies due to:
A. lack of knowledge about health condition
B. Inadequate knowledge of the nature and extend of nursing
care needed
- Inadequate family resources for care:
A. Financial resources
B. Physical resources
