NAME: BARCENA, GERMAINE ASHLEY F.

Date: 09-21-2021
TASK: Answer the following questions briefly.

1. Who is Ambrosio Rianzares-Bautista? Give three significant facts about him.

a. He was a lawyer and author of the Declaration of Philippine Independence.

b. He was arrested and jailed at the outbreak of the Revolution.
c. He attended preparatory school in Biñan and studied law at the University of Santo
Tomas (UST)

2. What does the document want to convey? (10 points)

- The Philippine Declaration of Independence was proclaimed on 12 June 1898 in Cavite

II el Viejo (present-day Kawit, Cavite), Philippines. The document wants to convey the
proclamation of sovereignty and the freedom of the Philippine Islands from the Spanish
colonial control. It also sends the message that the Philippines has the legal right to govern
itself. This document demonstrated that, despite being colonized for nearly 300 years, we
can never be conquered by the conqueror if we unify and become one. It sends the notion
that we can reclaim what others have taken from us. Our country, our liberty.

3. How did the Filipinos regard the United States of America based on the
document? (5 points) What is your stand on this? Do you agree with the Filipinos the way
they looked at the Americans? (15 points)

- The Philippine-American War that followed lasted three years and claimed the lives of
nearly 4,200 American and 20,000 Filipino soldiers. Violence, starvation, and disease
claimed the lives of up to 200,000 Filipino citizens. The decision to annex the Philippines
by US authorities was not without opposition in the United States. After 300 years of
Spanish domination, Filipino insurgents led by Emilio Aguinaldo declared independence
from Spain during the Spanish-American War. Filipino revolutionaries and US troops had
driven the Spaniards out by mid-August, but Aguinaldo's aspirations for independence
were shattered when the US legally seized the Philippines as part of its peace accord with
Spain. Filipinos were dissatisfied with American control, and they revolted. Against the
United States, the Filipinos employed guerrilla warfare methods. The Americans retaliated
by incarcerating citizens and troops in "re-concentration camps."

4. What is the importance of this document in the history of our country? (10 points)

- Original documents containing essential historical information regarding a person, place,

or event are known as historical documents, and they can be used as primary sources in
historical research. The proclamation of Philippine independence in Kawit, Cavite, on
June 12, 1898, was the most major success of Aguinaldo's Dictatorial Government. The
day has been declared a national holiday. One of the most significant events in Philippine
history is the declaration of independence. For hundreds of years, the country was
colonized by a variety of nations. Thousands of people came from provinces to watch the
historic event in Kawit. Imagine achieving your independence after all of your trials and
tribulations. It's invaluable.
