Problem Set No. 12

Method of Consistent Deformation
Name: Patrick Jr. A. Palamine Student ID No: 19101538
Schedule: MW 8:30 – 10:00 AM Date Submitted: January 7, 2022

Instruction: Solve the following problems using Method of Consistent Deformations (Force
Method). Draw the necessary and appropriate free-body diagrams. Summary of answers may be
provided in data tabulation.

1. Calculate the reactions and the vertical displacement at Joint C if the steel truss is loaded as
shown in Figure 12.1. Top and bottom chord members of the truss are 2L64x64x7.9x19 while
the web members are 2L64x64x4.8x9. The data of the following sections are tabulated in Table
12.1. P1 = 15 kN. P2 = 10 kN, and P3 = 7.5 kN.

Table 12.1: Section Properties

Size A D B T Lx
(mm2) (mm) (mm) (mm) (x103 mm4)
2L64x64x7.9x19 1880 63.5 63.5 7.94 695
2L64x64x4.8x9 1160 63.5 63.5 4.76 445

2. Determine the reactions and the force in each member of the steel truss shown in Figure 11.2,
Top and bottom chord members of the truss are W310x67 while the web members are W250x58.
The data of the following sections are tabulated in Table 11.2. P = 30 kN.
