NARRATIVE REPORT ON 2021 GLOBAL HANDWASHING DAY CELEBRATION

Handwashing with soap and water is one

of the important elements of WinS (Wash In
Schools) Program as stated in DepEd Order No.
10, s. 2016. In line with this, Global
Handwashing Day is annually celebrated every
15th day of October worldwide to advocate,
increase awareness and understanding about
the significance and benefits of handwashing
with soap and water as an easy, effective, and
affordable way to prevent diseases and save
lives.

This year celebration , the Annual Global

Handwashing Day theme “Our Future is at
Hand-Let’s Move forward Together,”(Malinis na
Kamay Para sa kinabukasan ng Bayan) focuses
to remind all Filipinos to wash their hands
throughout their day in all places to prevent the
spread of diseases and infections. It reminds us
that handwashing is important and considered
the best step we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.

Benita Jarra Elementary School headed by our active and supportive School Head Mr.
Edwin C. Pameroyan together with the teachers, parents and pupils supported and conducted this
activity. Our School Head made an announcement earlier by sending memorandum for us to read
and make posting tarpaulin on stage. Teachers and parents demonstrated the proper
handwashing before entering the school premises during the distribution and retrieval of modules.
We conducted group handwashing following health protocoals and we encouraged too our
parents to send pictures of their children on our group chat doing the handwashing at home. We
explained them to follow the proper steps and use running water in handwashing but because of
unavailable faucet at home, they may use alternative ways like waterjug and dipper(kabo) during
handwashing. On September 10,2021 before the opening of classes, we distributed handmade
liquid hand soap to all our pupils as well as the hygiene kit provided by the DepEd in order for our
pupils to use in their daily handwashing.

In the said highlight of the celebration, Global Handwashing Day, we successfully joined
and also invited our parents for the virtual event by watching Live the DepEd Phillippines via
facebook.Indeed, it was a very fruitful and productive day!

Saving lives, it’s in your hands. Be aware, wash with care. Clean hands can stop germs.
