MOUNT KINABALU,

SABAH MALAYSIA
Madiha Abdullah, September 27, 2020 11:57 MYT

Mount Kinabalu is a symbol of greatness not only for the people of Sabah but Malaysia as well.

MOUNT Kinabalu is one of the most popular mountains for climbers from around the
world. With an altitude of 4,095 meters above sea level, it certainly provides a challenge
for those who love extreme activities and climbing.
But that's not the only specialty. We give six more reasons why Mount Kinabalu is a
symbol of greatness not only to the people of Sabah, but Malaysia as a whole.
1) Kinabalu National Park was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010 and it is
the first location in Malaysia to be on the list. Of course, the main attraction here is
Mount Kinabalu which stands majestically as one of the highest peaks in Asia.
2) Mount Kinabalu, which consists of igneous rocks and an oval -shaped granite dome
that formed when magma broke into the surface of the earth's crust millions of years
ago, is estimated to be over 10 million years old.
3) Climbing Mount Kinabalu takes two days and one night. Climbers will typically take 6
hours to reach Laban Rata’s rest house and continue the climb early the next morning,
which takes up to three hours to reach the summit.
4) The temperature in Kinabalu National Park which is located 1,563 meters above sea
level is between 15 ° C-24 ° C. The weather can be very hot during the day but cooler at
night. In Laban Rata, which is located 3,270 meters above sea level, the temperature is
around 6 ° C-14 ° C but can sometimes reach almost freezing at night. The best time to
climb Mount Kinabalu is February, March and April where there is less rain than other
months.
5) The highest mountain in Malaysia is the third highest mountain in Southeast Asia,
behind Mount Hkakabo Razi in Myanmar and Puncak Jaya in Indonesia.
6) There are over 5,000 species of flora and fauna that live and grow around Mount
Kinabalu. You will find a wide variety of species on the lower slopes of the mountain and
more native and unique species in the higher parts.
