Module 2 – The 5 Cs

In this Module, you will begin to think about planning a lesson through CLIL.

CLIL lessons integrate five components. Not only do they combine Content and Language Learning
(Communication), but they also integrate thinking skills (Cognition), ‘Can Do’ statements (Competence),
and an understanding of how the content relates to learners’ lives outside school (Community).

Learning Stages:

1. Go to your Learning Diary and do Task 1 – Planning for CLIL, and then Task 2 – Reading about
the 5 Cs.
2. The 5 Cs can be shown graphically. Here is a Mind Map to show how a teacher has started
planning a lesson to take the 5Cs into account.

See the Mind Map

For this lesson, the teacher has chosen the topic of ‘habitats’.

Go to your Learning Diary and do:

Task 3 – Restating information
Task 4 – Choosing a topic.
