Netflix prices are decreasing in India and increasing in the USA. Why?

Netflix has slashed the price of its basic plan in India by 60%, from 499 rupees ($6.60) to 199 rupees per
month, while also slashing the price of its higher-quality plans by the same amount. The most
noteworthy pricing change is in Netflix India's lowest tier, the mobile plan, which is now priced at 149
rupees, down from 199 rupees, and is aimed at people using mobile phones and tablets. In the first half
of 2021, Indian consumers spent approximately five hours per day on their Android mobile devices and
downloaded 4.8 billion games, outnumbering all Android mobile gamers worldwide, thanks to Netflix's
concentration on Indian mobile viewers.

When compared to its key international competitors, Netflix outperforms its domestic competition.
Disney+ Hotstar, a joint venture between Disney and its Star India subsidiary, would have 46 million
subscribers by the end of the year, according to a study from Media Partners Asia. Amazon Prime Video,
on the other hand, which had 18 million subscribers this summer, may have nearly 22 million by the end
of the year.

However, if Netflix is unable to generate revenues and maintain customer growth in the United States, it
will be forced to raise prices. "Simply part of their desire to continue to generate revenues, to be able to
compete successfully, to be able to create attractive material, and then to promote effectively as
competition has increased," the price increase said.
