Course Outcomes:

This course is suitable for individuals who have gained an apprenticeship.


Successful completion of this course will enable students to work in the glass
industry as a skilled tradesperson. They may eventually become senior management
or operate their own glazing business.

More specifically, as well as gaining knowledge and skills in occupational


health and safety, communications, calculations and teamwork, learners will
develop a broad range of skills in:

" first aid


" moving and processing thin and thick glass by hand
" operating machinery to process glass
" glazing/re-glazing residential windows and doors
" operating glass frefall rack
" assessing glass and glazing requirements
" moving glass by mechanical means
" fabricating and assembling metal frames
" interpreting work documentation and estimating and costing
" applying patterns and designs to glass
" constructing and repairing leadlights

What you must do to complete the course:

The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course. The
units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups.

You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions. If a course contains optional groups there will be a
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do. At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement saying
how many you must do.

The award of the qualification LMF30602 Certificate III in Glass and Glazing
(requires achievement of twenty-three (23) units of competence consisting of:

4 mandatory core units


16 sector specialist units (9 Mandatory and 7 Electives)
3 elective units from the LMF02 Furnishing Training Package or from other
endorsed trainng packages in accordance with the training package 'General
Structuring Rules'

To address these requirements the course structure is made up of 3 major groups

Group 1 contains units dealing with core competencies. The four units in this
group must be completed

Group 2 contains units dealing with mandatory sector specialist competencies.


All nine units must be completed.

Group 3 contains subgroups dealing with remaining sector specialist and other
elective competencies. Ten units must be selected inclusive of at
least seven units from Subgroup 1

Group 4 contains enrichment units/modules. These do not count towards course
completion. Note that unit 3223A Senior First Aid duplicates the
outcomes of unit HLTFA301B. Module 3223A should not be included in the
student's enrolment if HLTFA301B is included (Group 3 Subgroup 2).

Tutorial Support
================
Students requiring additional tuition in order to improve their literacy,
numeracy, communications, science, computing, or any other skill will need to
enrol in course 9999. There is no additional enrolment fee for this course.

NOTE

1. The course structure does not dictate the order in which units must be
delivered. Institutes should be flexible in order and method in which they
deliver and group units in response to workplace needs wherever possible.

2. To satisfy specific local industry needs Institutes should contact the


program manager to have additional units of competence added to the course.

Requirements to receive the qualification:

To receive the Certificate III in Glass and Glazing learners


must satisfactorily complete 23 units consisting of:

- 4 units in Group 1
- 9 units in Group 2
- 10 units in Group 3 (including a minimum of 7 units from Subgroup 1)

Exit Points:

Subject to completion of certain specified units in this qualification, learners


may be eligible for LMF20402 Certificate II in Glass and Glazing (7135). For
details see TAFE NSW Course 7135.
