SESSION #7
Write only the letter of the corresponding answer after each statement. (D- diffusion,
O- osmosis, C-carrier-mediated transport mechanism E- Endocytosis /Exocytosis)
I.Draw the different types of solutions indicating also the movement of water in the figure below
(hypertonic hypotonic and isotonic)
II. Write T if the following statement is correct while write F is the statement is incorrect.
T 1. Osmosis is the process where the extracellular fluid moves across a semi-permeable membrane
F 2. In a hypotonic solution, there is a greater amount of solutes outside the cell attracting the water
movement from inside the cell to outside
T 3. When there is an equal amount of solutes in and out the cell there is no movement of water
T 5. Isotonic solution have the same amount of solutes in and out the cell.
1. ANSWER: T
RATIO: Because osmosis refers to diffusion of water through semi-permeable membrane from less
concentrated into more concentrated solution.
2. ANSWER: F
RATIO: Hypotonic solution has a lower solute concentration than inside the cell and the statement is
wrong because the hypertonic solution has a greater amount of solutes.
3. ANSWER: T
RATIO: Because the equal amount of solutes in and out of cell, there is no large movement of water.
4. ANSWER: F
RATIO: Because the statement is wrong. The hypotonic solution can swell or shrink until it burst and
die.
5. ANSWER: T
RATIO: Isotonic solutions is in equilibrium with its surroundings, and the solutes concentrations inside
and outside are the same.
You are done with the session. Let's track your progress
AL STRATEGY: MINUTE PAPER. You will now respond to the given question below. You are only given a
minute to answer the question.
"What was the most useful or the most meaningful thing you leaned this session?"
The most useful in this lesson for me is all about the Osmosis. Because it gives me more knowledge
about the differences of blood cells in isotonic, hypotonic and hypertonic.
