The PHN Bag, also known as the Community Bag, is a tool by which the nurse, during their

visit, will enable her to perform nursing procedures with ease and to save time and effort. It is an
essential and indispensable equipment of the public health nurse which they have to carry along
when they go out for home visiting. It contains basic medications and articles which are
necessary for giving care.

Purposes:
 The bag is needed during each home, school, or industrial visit.
 For inspection of the client’s health or vital signs.
 For performing certain procedures like: urine analysis, antenatal assessment, etc.

Nurse’s Responsibilities:
 The bag should contain all necessary articles, supplies, and equipment.
 The bag and its contents should be cleaned.
 The bag and its contents should be well protected.
