COURSE GUIDE

I. INTRODUCTION
a. GE ELEC 2 introduces the pre-service teachers to the world of research by
providing them with working knowledge of the concepts and methods in the
conceptualization and conduct of research. It covers topics on the nature of
research, the research problem, related literature, research methodology,
sampling, instrumentation, data collection, data presentation, data analysis and
interpretation, writing the summary, conclusions and recommendations, the
research report and evaluating the research report.
b. ENG MAJOR 5 develops pre-service teachers’ technical and scientific writing
skills necessary for information and communication across disciplines using
global language in a multilingual context. It will provide them extensive reading
background and considerable knowledge on the components and characteristics
that determine technicality of language and concepts in a technical and scientific
work. They will analyze a variety of professional rhetorical situations and write
different technical reports to demonstrate their proficiency in the written
communication.
c. FIL MAJOR 7 ay nais maipakikita ang kaalaman sa paglikha at paggamit ng iba’t
ibang kulturang popular, e.g. pelikula, musika, komiks at pahayagan, mga
programang panradyo, pantelebisyon na nakaiimpluwensya sa paghubog ng
kamalayan at kaakuhan o identidad. Naipakikita ang kakayahan sa pagtuturo ng
iba’t ibang kulturang popular na isinasaalang-alang ang pagkakaiba-iba ng mga
mag-aaral.

II. COURSE GOALS


a. After completion of the course students are expected to be able to:
i. prepare a preliminary research design for projects in their subject matter
areas;
ii. accurately collect, analyze, and report data;
iii. present complex data or situations clearly; and
iv. review and analyze research findings that affect their agency.
b. At the end of the course, the pre-service teachers should be able to:
i. analyze technical and scientific paper to display necessary for information
and communication across discipline; and
ii. demonstrate proficiency in the written communication by writing and
revising different technical reports using global language.
c. Pagkatapos ng kurso, ang mga mag-aaral ay inaasahang:
i. Naipakikita ang kaalaman at pag-unawa sa iba’t ibang paraan ng
pagtuturo ng iba’t ibang kulturang popular na may pagsasaalang-alang
sa pagkakaiba-ibang linggwistika, kultural, sosyo-ekonomik at
paniniwalang kinabibilangan mga mag-aaral;
ii. Naipakikita ang kaalaman sa mga estratehiyang pampagtuturo na
nagpapaunlad ng literasiya sa pamamagitan ng positibong paggamit ng
makabagong teknolohiya na makatutulong sa pagkatuto ng iba’t ibang
kulturang popular; at
iii. Nagagamit ang mapanuri at malikhaing pag-iisip sa pagsusuri ng iba’t
ibang kulturang popular na nakaiimpluwensya sa paghubog ng kanilang
kamalayan at kaakuhan o identidad.

a. The main reference that we will use is the course module written by Ma’am Fina-
Daye S. Panginen. This has been the seminal reading for GE ELEC 2. A soft copy is
available in our google classroom for individual use of registered students only.

Other guides and resources will also be uploaded in the course website, so use
them as you go through each part of the module. For some parts, you will be
asked to read supplementary texts which will be made available to you as part of
the tasks and activities for each week. Apart from all the resources which will be
provided, you are encouraged to use other relevant, credible materials to
understand the topics further.
